Question

recording flv via the internet

I've had a developer do some work on a FMS app and it has dragged on for a couple of months. All he had to do was install FMS on his server and record a flv from a webcam via the internet, with an interface so that you could see the webcam shot and then play back the recorded video.

How long should this take in development hours?

Development time is always relative, some developers might took a week some others a month.
For example, some months ago I've done an application almost like this one you mentioned, it was a bit different because it featured 3 levels of logins and permissions. I took 4 weeks to get it done.

Hi, I can see that different levels of complexity will require different times. To break things down to the simplest factors, how long would it take to install FMS?

    Hi,

To install FMS i shouldn't take more then a couple of hours if everything is in order (thats of course for windows) dont know how long it takes on Linux. To record a simple flv from a webcamand then play it back should probably not take more then a day. As there are many tutorials & free example files doing just that. Bill Sanders has a very nice tutorial on trainsimpleonline.com on FMS one of the chapters has a nice Record and playback application. Good thing about that type of application is that you dont need (most cases) any serverside actionscript.

Anyway i'm talking out of my own experiance so I don't mean to offend anyone.

    Hope this helps.
