Question

seeking to first or last frame

Hello,

using flash media interactive server 3.5.6. we found that with any pre-recorded stream recorded to RAW or MP4 (codec is H264) that seeking to the first or last frame the frame displayed does not change until playback.

if we seek to anywhere after or before the last frame it works. we also verified that frame by frame seeking also works. we tried setting enhancedseek in application.xml zone to client and server. no change. we played with buffertime no change.

I've seen suggestions online that we manually grab the bitmap of the frame and display as an image?! surely there is a better way?

We verified this is our player, we also verified in the OSMF player.

Is this a  known limitation? What can we do to manually refresh the frame displayed without beginning playback. We are developing a media asset management website and our users need to be able to seek to first and last frame so they can annotate.

    Hi,

Thanks for trying out FMS 3.5.6. Few quick queries to dig in to the issue below :

Are the pre-recorded files made from FMS ? There is a known issue with the FMS recorded videos that video gets frozen on the first frame unless the playback starts. So i think the case you are facing is similar to that. We are expecting the fix for this issue very soon and i can update you on the proceedings. Please let us know if that is the case.

For general thumbnail presentaitons of the frames, bitmap is a very good and recommended way of fetching the video and audio bits from the stream.

Hope the information is useful. Thank you !

Yes the files are recorded using flash media live encoder to fms.

And yes we are seeing the same bug that you describe. Can you please update us on the proceedings and give us the bug # so we can track it.

Also we have a license for FMIS 3.5x and have no plans to upgrade to 4.x for the current project. So when you fix this bug any chance there will be a 3.5.7 release with this fix or will we have to upgrade to FMIS 4.0? We have reviewed 4.0 release notes and it appears to have a few knows issues which affect our workflow.

    thanks,

    Tuviah

    Hi,

Thanks for your concern and interest

We don't currently have timelines fixed but the issue is already queued in our escalation work and should be available at the earliest in our next product revision.

I do not know of any support being stopped for 3.x and hence you can expect the fix to be present in the next dot release for it. I would update you if there is any change in this process.

Though you already mentioned that there are some known issues that trouble you to not to shift to FMS 4.0, I would like to know what's blocking you there as i believe all that works on 3.x should be fine and working even better on the 4.x. Did you try the 4.0.2 revision build and see if that has already solved your issues ? Please let us know.

    Thank you !
