Top reasons why an FLV does not stream properly?

Hello everyone,

What would be some top reasons an FLV will not stream with Flash Media Streaming Serve 3.5?

I ran the FLVcheck.exe on the FLV and it passed; however, the FLV will not stream. If I could just get some good reasons that would cause an FLV from streaming I think that will give me a good starting point for troubleshooting.

Some background:
1. The FLV was created from numerous .AVIs captured with OnLocation CS4 AVI Type 2 (All Frames.

2. I placed these AVIs into a Premier Pro CS5 DV - NTSC Standard 48kHz Sequence.

3. I exported the Sequence out to an FLV using the preset FLV - Web - 320x240, 4x3, Project Framerate, 500kbps.

4. The FLV itself passed the FLVcheck tool. It's 53:19:02 and plays perfectly in the Adobe Media Player.

5. When I try to import the FLV into Flash using the standard FLVPlayback component with the following address structure "rtmpe://192.168.1.1/my_FMS_app_Name/FLV_Name" Flash CS5 does not recognize the FLV, BUT other FLVs are recognized.
(FYI--I know my path to the FLV is correct.)

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sam.

    Hi Sam,

Just to check, are you using the most recent update of FMS 3.5 (3.5.4) as typically we fix a collection of playback failures with each release?

    Thank you Asa,

This is the problem. I've tested this on my test server and determined that FMSS v3.5 does not stream longer FLV/F4V files. I installed FMSS v3.5.4 and now it works.

    I have a few questions:

    1. Why does the newest version of FMSS have to be completely re-installed over the current version?

    2. What is v3.06 for? If I'm running v3.5.4 do I need to install v3.06? (I'm assuming v3.06 would be the update for v3.0? This is not clear.

Thanks for your suggestion as this did fix my problem.

    Sam.
