Upgraded to FMS 3.5 and now files added automatically get Archive property

I recently upgraded FMS 3. to 3.5 and whenever we upload video to the VOD folder they automatically get the attribute "a" for archive.  They don't work with that so once we go in and take the "check" off the "make ready for archive" off the video will work properly.  Is there a way to turn this off?

    Hi,

Its not that after upgrading you are getting that attribute I think it would have been before that also. As OS sets that Archive flag whenever a file is written to. The backup program clears the flag on a full or incremental backup. When asked for a differential or incremental backup, the backup program simply backs up those files with the archive flag checked.

    Say I have:

    A.txt

    B.txt

    C.txt

A full backup is made on Monday, clearing the flags. I edit B.txt on Tuesday, and C.txt on Wednesday. A differential backup on Tuesday backs up B and leaves the archive flag set. A differential backup on Wednesday backs up B and C.

If I use incremental backups instead, Tuesday's backup backs up B, and clears its flag, so an incremental backup on Wednesday only sees that C has been changed and backs it up.

And also they should work with "Archive" property checked. Can you tell me exact problem you are facing and how are you using the uploaded videos?

    Amit,

Your idea that the video should work properly with the archive property makes sense but its so odd that once I clear that the video works instantly. Maybe another helpful bit of information is that we were able to use flv format prior to the upgrade and now videos using that format do not play. We have to change all older videos to f4v.

I would have to ask the web guy specific issues that he gets after I send him the filenames because right now all I know is that he embeds them then sends an email if it doesn't play. He is extremely experienced at programming but not at video. Thats why we've typically gotten the video ready for viewing and simply have him do the embedding.

I hope this helps but I can look into more detail for you if it would help.

    Thanks,

    Amanda
