By default, the server runs as System Account with no access to network drives. You can change the service user to a user with network access privileges with a UNC path.

In Windows 2008, when I change FMS service to log on as user and start the service I get ” Windows Could not start the Flash Media Server (FMS) service on Local Computer.  Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly”.  When I change it back to Local System Account, it works fine

Tested in Windows 7 x64 and I was able to start the service as a user log on.

Any idea how to fix this issue in Windows 2008.  I checked the local policy group and the user have rights to log on as a service.  I compared Windows 7 setting to Windows 2008 and they match.

Thanks,

Mike S.

I just started the FMS service on the server and it worked with (log on as a user) .  The only thing I can think of that it has been 48 hours since creating the user.

    Hi Soubar,

We're planning on getting more documentation for this for the future.  Right now changing the Windows user is somewhat undocumented and you're encountering the results.  Really there are a few pieces FMS needs to be able to do and doesn't issue nice warnings when it's unable.  You've uncovered one, the ability to bind network storage, but it also needs to be able to

    read/execute its configuration files

    touch/make shared memory partitions

    bind low ports etc.

That's just a starting list.  Anyway, LMK if you run into more problems here and we can try and help until this is more a part of the regular working set.
