VHosts, aliases and the Administration console

Hi,

I'm trying to setup multiple VHosts on one physical server and have followed the documentation here http://livedocs.adobe.com/fms/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/common/html/wwhelp.htm?context=LiveDocs_Parts&file=00000205.html.

I now have 3 folders server1.mydomain.com, server2.mydomain.com and server3.mydomain.com in addition to _defaultVHost_. All have their own seperate application folders and I can only see the applications assigned to each one available under the applications tab as it should be.

The problem is when I log in to the administration console for one of these domains and navigate to manage servers e.g.for server1.mydomain.com it shows 4 vHosts listed under it (server1.mydomain.com, server2.mydomain.com and server3.mydomain.com and _defaultVHost_) as though it has logged into the root server.  Is there a way of making sure it logs only into one vHost and can only manage that vhost (eg. restart that vHost and none of the others)?

Cheers

    Correct answer

You can create  Vhost level admin users.... just  add a users.xml file in the Vhost's configuration directory. Users defined in that file will only be able to administer the Vhost.

Hmmmm, this appears to have stopped me being able to see all the other vHosts under the admin console at least.  But it has also stopped me from being able to restart that vHost?!? - As a vHost admin you do not have access to the Manage Servers panel

Or am I making a basic misconception that when I want to restart a vHost, say with some different settings or something, I am actually restarting the whole FMS operation (thus knocking over any applications that are running on the other vHosts)?

Right... Vhost level admin users don't have access to the manage servers panel.

When you restart a Vhost, you're doing just that. Restarting a specific Vhost should not affect other Vhosts running on the server.
