Question

Web server info for FMS

I haven't seen enough documentation or links for this to know what the situation is.  Does FMS come with its own web server or does it require installation on an existing web server?  Which web servers are compatible?

Links to documentation would be appreciated.  The mentions I have found so far are less that useful.

Thanks,  David

    Hi David,

Yes, all editions of FMS version 3.5 install with Apache. You can choose not to install it as well. The FMS Technical Overview has more information in the section "Core server architecture":

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaServer/3.5_TechOverview/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d119ed944a1a-7ffa.html

The FMS Configuration and Administration Guide has a section called "Configuring Apache HTTP Server":

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashMediaServer/3.5_AdminGuide/WSE2A5A7B9-E118-496f-92F9-E295038DB7DB.html

At the bottom of that page I've added a comment explaining how to use FMS with any web server.

Please let me know if you need more information.

Interesting.  Even though we just got this, it appears we have version 2
    (Flash Media Server 2).

If this is accurate (and why we got this is a mystery), that might explain
    the problem.
