With the advent of and improvements to APPE why are we still using Postscript print drivers when printing to rip servers such as Fiery?

Maybe you can tell us why you are doing this?

If you have a print quality PDF file (preferably complying with the PDF/X-4 standard with all fonts embedded, live transparency, and with objects in their original ICC-profiled color spaces) and you have a RIP or DFE that supports native PDF RIP operations, there is no good reason to ruin what you have by opening in Acrobat and printing PostScript!

First of all, not all EFI RIPs have the Adobe PDF Print Engine technology. For many lower end EFI products such as for office MFPs, there is either no APPE (Adobe PDF Print Engine) option or one is available as an extra-cost option. Although the lower end EFI products without APPE do support PDF printing, you are better off sending PostScript via Acrobat Pro. On the other hand, if you have an EFI product with APPE, you should directly submit PDF file to the EFI print queue and not attempt to print from Adobe Reader or Acrobat.
