Question

Two sides printing - not correct

Hi,

I made a 2-page PostScript document. On the 1st page I have an image made from parts of a picture. On the 2nd page I've got rectangles (the grid) exactly on positions where there are parts of a picture on the 1st page. Left margin on 1st page is the same as right on 2nd page.

My example output files are: http://doscniewoli.pl/download/road_1page.pdf and http://doscniewoli.pl/download/road_2pages.pdf.

The second file is that I need. The first is the test to show I put a grid on 2nd page on the correct place.

However, when I print the road_2pages.pdf file (2 pages on one A4 paper - two sides printing) the grid is little bit shifted (more or less). That is what I'd like to avoid.

How may I tell the printer to print the pages correctly?

Thank you for any help,

Jacek

To expand on the earlier response, this is absolutely not a PostScript issue, but rather an issue of the tolerances of the device you are using. The “support” you would call would not be Adobe, but rather, the manufacturer of your particular print device.

It is very bad information I would have to call to all printers manufacturers, because that 2-sides printing is for my future clients of my future company.

There is no chance to instruct a printer to print correctly???

You were given the correct answer. This is absolutely not an issue of PostScript or anything that can be done to “instruct a printer to print correctly¨ to use your terminology. The issue is physical registration and tolerances of individual devices.

You can't expect a very inexpensive (under $2,000) home or business printer to have the same tolerances and adjustments for duplex registration as a $500,000 digital press. Sometimes, low cost printers can be adjusted for better registration, sometimes not. But we can't further help you here. Sorry.

One thing you might consider is redesigning output that will be printed duplex to be more “forgiving” in terms of how bad duplex misregistration actually looks.

It is normal and common for a small misalignment in front and back printing. Check the paper guides are tight, check printer manual, if it is a high end printer, call support. You could also choose to program in a shift on back pages.
