I found a dozen or so floppy disks with serial numbers on them, but they don't work anymore. Is there a way to download the fonts using the original serial numbers?

You can contact Adobe Customer Support and see what they can do to assist.

Quite frankly, if you have Adobe fonts on diskettes, you are dealing with very old Type 1 fonts either in MacOS or Windows format. Recent versions of MacOS 10 no longer support Type 1 fonts at all (although Adobe applications running on MacOS do support such fonts). Although Type 1 fonts may be installed on Windows, Microsoft Office beginning with Office 2013 no longer support such fonts.

If you still have need for the particular font families you licensed back when (at least 15 years ago if not longer), you should consider licensing the OpenType CFF versions of these fonts which are fully supported by both MacOS and Windows and are fully cross-platform. They typically have updated glyph complements and support OpenType typographical layout features including ligatures, alternate characters, and when available old style figures, small caps, etc. Unfortunately, there is no “upgrade pricing” available to go from Type 1 to OpenType CFF fonts.

Yes, it is indeed ‘unfortunate’ that Adobe chooses not to offer upgrades from Type 1 to OpenType. Some of us invested quite heavily in Type 1 fonts right up until the 2000s. How convenient for Adobe that it would have its customers license the same font twice

Some of us have, however, found workarounds to this unfriendly business practice (like converting to OpenType with FontLab Studio) and Adobe has fallen out of grace over this issue with many of its loyal customers …
