I am typing a document in the newest version of Adobe but the publisher only has fonts up to Adobe Version 6. How can I differentiate those fonts?

I wrote this before seeing you had been sent a font list. So you can ignore the rest. However, if they have sent a font list you must assume it is complete. In the days before the Adobe Fonts subscription, with its 5000 fonts, nobody had that many. It would have cost maybe $100,000 to license that many fonts.

(This can be ignored, but it might be useful in future, or for someone facing a similar issue).

You can't assume a Publisher is going to have any particular font you want to use - there are millions of fonts which would cost tens of millions of dollars! However, it is reasonable to hope that a professional printer would have a license for Creative Cloud, and so be able to use any of the fonts in the Adobe Fonts service - like Modern Love.

So, since they admit they are using ancient software and won't get up to date, you have choices depending on the business relationship.

    - Are they a printer - paid to print a book? Find another.

    - Are they a service provider, doing specific work like typesetting? Find another.

    - Are they an online ebook service, you are stuck with? Ask them for a full list of all the fonts they support, and pick one. They CANNOT expect ANYONE to magically know what an "Adobe 6 font" is. I doubt any of the experts here - many with 20 years experience and more - could quickly tell you.

    - Are they a publisher, who has agreed to PAY YOU to publish your book and then sell it? If so, work with them, but I'd expect them to be willing to pay for a font. They can license it here: Resistenza Type: Modern Love (rsztype.com)

    - If they call themselves a publisher but expect you to pay them? Then they are just a printer. Find another.

You also could buy a copy of the font and send it to them, but font licensing is complicated; you must not also install it on your own computers.

Thank you so much for the information. It is self-published and they use a third-party printer. After reading your post, I did find a couple of fonts on their list that I liked because I cannot afford to spend any more money on this. Thanks again!

    CS6 is a 10 year old version.
At that time fonts were something you bought.
If you want to use fonts other than the ones that come with CS6, you can buy them at fonts.com, for example.

Or you can move to a paid subscription to Creative Cloud.
If it is Adobe fonts, they are provided by Adobe Fonts.
However, CS6 itself will not be available, and non-Adobe fonts may still need to be purchased separately.

Some fonts are provided free of charge, but many high-quality fonts are must available for a fee.

There is no universal font versioning, are you talking about CS6 maybe?

All the publisher mentioned was that they use Adobe 6 Fonts. They use InDesign to create the manuscripts. For example, the do not have Modern Love, which is a font I wanted to use for chapter titles.

They would have to buy a license to any font they don't have that isn't free. There are millions of fonts out there, Adobe only offers a tiny subset.
