Font Family Relationships

I want to set Warnock Pro Light as my default font (in Word and InDesign). However, when I use it and hit the keyboard command for Bold, it doesn't change to the semibold weight as I would expect--and as other fonts I have do. I hope someone here might be able to give me some insight into why this might be for this particular font. Thanks in advance.

    Is it a purchased font (such as http://store1.adobe.com/cfusion/store/html/index.cfm?event=displayFont&code=WARP10003010) or a free one?

    Is there actually a (semi) bold face (in the font family) or is it just a single face font?

    Hi Jacob,

    Thank you so much for your response. I am grateful for the help.

    Yes, it is a purchased font, as part of the Type Classics for Learning package. It includes the Light, Regular, Semibold, and Bold weights with italics and opticals as well (though I don't really intend to use those).

    I have owned this for a while, but am just now deciding to use it.

    Well, I found an answer to my question--though an unsatisfying one. It turns out that not all font families provide the same font family links. This page explains what I mean: https://helpx.adobe.com/legacy/kb/font-style-linking.html.

    So, when I go to the web page for Warnock Pro, I can click on the link that says, "Package Read Me." This page at that link lists what fonts are linked to others to use the "Bold" and "Italic" commands. This page shows that the only link from Warnock Pro Light that does anything is the "Italic" command that changes the font to Warnock Pro Light Italic. This list is here: https://store1.adobe.com/type/browser/html/readmes/WarnockProReadMe.html

    So, to compare, I looked at the same page for Cronos Pro here: https://store1.adobe.com/type/browser/html/readmes/CronosProReadMe.html. This page shows that in Cronos Pro, using the "Bold" command from Cronos Pro Light sets Cronos Pro Semibold and using both "Bold" and "Italic" sets Cronos Pro Semibold Italic.

    I cannot figure out a reason why this would be different for these fonts, but at least I know that this is the way Warnock Pro is packaged. This sure limits the usability for my purposes. So I will start looking for workarounds or find something else to use.
