Question

Font that showed in ID CS3 missing in ID and AI CS5

I just opened a file I probably last worked on in ID CS 3. It uses a little-used common domain (maybe?) font called Classic Typewriter.

The file opens and displays fine in CS 3; but, the Regular weight is missing in CS 5. ClassicTypewriter is displayed as the font name, but Regular is surrounded by brackets in the style; i.e., [Regular] . I believe that means ID cannot find the font.

What gives? Why is it okay in CS 3 but not CS 5?

Just checked, same is true for AI, as well. I further checked the font with Apple's Font Book Validation. There is a message about an error with "name" usability. So, I guess my only question now is why Adobe changed things so that a font that worked in CS3 no longer works in CS5 whether or not the font is totally okay. (The font also seems to work fine in TextEdit.)

    Hi Bob,

Is this the font you're having problems with?

Yes, that would be the font.

Funny thing about that site, though...clicking on the "Download" link only seems to load other web pages, not download the font...

Oh. I see. There is another link besides the link that says Download. Seems it is only a PC font, that is the file even fails to unzip on the Mac.

    Thank you, though...

(I ended up buying a headline version of Serifa from Elener + Flake. I think Serifa is the real, original font.
