fonts not installing properly

Hello. I am on a Mac and I am working off of a file that was sent to me that uses several variations of the Frutiger font. I do not have this font installed on my computer. I looked in the InDesign packaged Document Fonts folder and tried to install them. I double click on the font file, Font Book opens and I hit the Install Font button. This results in Font Book telling me that problems are found with some of the fonts and that there are 5 minor problems and 8 serious errors. I install them anyway, but they do not appear in my font selection. 

This is normally not a font I would choose, but I have to work with what the company is using.

Please let me know if any of you have any ideas what I can do..
