Futura is a very popular typeface, and exists in different versions and formats from a number of typefoundries.

The typeface was designed by Paul Renner starting in 1924, and first issued by the German typefoundry Bauer in 1927. Since then, many variations of the original design have been released.

Futura was one of the first typefaces that Adobe converted into the digital PostScript Type 1 format in the mid-1980s. Futura Std is Adobe’s OpenType format version of the same typeface, released in the mid-2000s.

That means if you already have a licence for Adobe’s Futura or Futura Std, then you don’t have to do anything else. But if you don’t, you’ll need to purchase a licence of Futura from another typefoundry. Adobe no longer directly sells licences for Futura; here are a few typefoundries that do:

Futura Round

You’ll notice that there are many different digital interpretations of the original Futura typeface. I recommend that you choose the version that you like best, and that has all the features and characters that you need.

Luckily, there is a version of Futura available on the Adobe Fonts service, as part of your Creative Cloud subscription: Paratype’s Futura PT. Paratype designs typefaces that support both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets, so Futura PT probably has everything you require.

I hope that answers your question. If not, please let me know.

Best regards
Andrew

You can license Futura Std from e.g. Linotype:

Unfortunately, Adobe does not offer this particular font through their Fonts service.
