Michael: The OpenType version Adobe sells is "Avenir LT Std 55 Roman" while their PostScript Type 1 version is "Avenir 55 Roman" so it sounds like the Type 1 version is what you're looking for.

I cannot find Avenir Roman 55. Is this an older Postscript font or is this a Open Type font. From its name it appears to be a Postscript font.
