How do I create a slim version of a typeface inside an existing one?Terribly worded question I know, the link below will hopefully explain.Thankshttp://www.dafont.com/forum/attach/orig/1/1/119026.gif
HI thereI have downloaded the fonts to the system and I can access them in otherprograms but, for some reason, not PS CS4Roger
Hello, I'm typesetting a document in English, but there is a name referenced that requires a Polish letter (looks like an "l" with a slash through it). I'm using Garamond Premier Pro, which supports the Adobe CE languages, including Polish, but searching has not yet enabled me to figure out how to access Polish glyphs. What do I need to do?Thanks,Tim
Been making a conscious effort lately to not only boost my awareness and understanding of typography in general but become more proficient with creating attractive type treatments, stylizations, etc.I now work in a field where I get to use typograhy a lot, and it's typically the focal point, too.My question - Do you know of any quality showcases/portfolios/archives of nice type treatment examples? Anything that you find inspiring, etc . . .Thanks all.
Hi all, I'm not necesarilly working with graphic design daily. However, I may have to replicate a design for a publication that uses Adobe Garamond Pro, which is why I got interested in Adobe - Fonts : Adobe Type Basics OpenType Edition. However, before I shell out the cash, I'd like to ask a few questions about related EULA's and font licensing issues - as the last thing I want to do is buy something, and then end up sued/financially destroyed/imprisoned anyways. (which is why I prefer with open fonts & software - at least no worries about prison, in case of misunderstanding the legalese)So, here are the questions: I am a Linux user, and I primarily intent to use the fonts with xelatex. On the download page, there are two options: "Win" and "Mac". Which one should I choose? Related question: Adobe Forums: Install a Mac font on a PC:Windows can use OpenType, Windows Type1 and Windows TrueType fonts. Windows cannot directly read Mac TrueType or Mac Type1 fonts. Do blackletter faces belong to one of the "standard" font families such as sans serif or serif or consitute a separate font family on their own.I am little confused as to what exactly applies.
Hi,Is it possible to draw a character on screen with only the Glyph Data from the glyf table in the TrueType file?I have been searching and found soms API's that can render glyphs. Most of them need acces to the .ttf file.Hope somseone can help me. If my question isn't clear enough or you need more info, just ask.
I would like to download the font Adobe Garamond Pro, but don't know if it will work in Microsoft Word. I have a Windows Xp OS and Word 2010.

Font Folio 11.1,but this font is not in this library, Your gold partner in China told me this font is part of Adobe Production Premium CS5.5 which we have already purchased from Adobe,it's used freely by user.Is it correct that we can use Adobe Heiti Std font freely and even for commercial purpose in many products? If this font is not free ,how can I purchase it for commercial purpose in many products?Could you pls tell me the contact person/company's mail or phone number.2.We need to use Eurostile LT font for English language by commercial purpose as well. My University is updating its 'Visual Identity Guidelines' and I am trying to find out the proper way to go about purchasing fonts for 'official' use and distribution to staff users across a large institution.I see Volume Licensing for programmes but not for fonts. Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance
Hi all,I wasn't sure how to title the thread in a way that caught what I was trying to get at, so please bear with me. And I do realise that what I'm asking about is a Windows issue rather than an Adobe one, but I thought people here might have an insight into the problem, given that it affects those who focus on and use fonts specifically. I haven't been able to find help or much engagement on any Windows forums, where the discussion is more about operating system capabilities and the issues of fonts are somewhat arcane to most posters. So please indulge me for a moment, and if you can help me, then thanks!I'm new to Windows 7. What I've discovered is that Windows 7 has substantially changed the way it handles and displays fonts. (Vista may have as well, but I never stepped into that pond.) In both the Font Viewer and in any Font Manager that I've tried, Windows 7 fills in any missing glyphs in a font within the basic ASCII character set with an auto-gener
Hi there, I would like to request that owners of font folio be given a free permanent typekit account so that those purchased fonts can be used on the web as well as in images, and on physical media.I purchased a single user licence of font folio 11 this year and it's hugely disappointing that I can't use these fonts on the web. Of course many companies will have paid thousands of pounds for font folio and they should clearly have full access to these fonts for web usage. I will soon be a freelance web designer and this would emmencly help myself and all the graphic/web designers out there. I'm aware that Adobe have recenlty purchased typekit and that some of those fonts which we have received in font folio are now available in the service. I believe it sends out the wrong message that users who pirate Adobe's fonts and use them on the web with the @fontface method will continue to do so and people who have paid out a significant amount of money to legally use the fonts are being limit
My project involves transliteration from Hebrew to English. The standard denotation for certain Hebrew letters that do not have a direct equivalent in the English alphabet requires a that a dot be placed underneath the English letter (particularly the letters 'H' and 'V').The Adobe font Minion Pro offers hundreds of glyphs of alternative letter formats, including many letters with a dot underneath, just not the two letters that I need.Is there any ways to get this font customized to offer these two letters with a dot underneath in all the style options (i.e., capital, lower-case, bold, italics, etc.)?Is there an alternative? Perhaps a similar-looking font offers the glyphs in question or maybe there is a way to manipulate the font to meet my requirements i.e., there is a glyph for a dot that sits beneath the letters but it takes up its own space, maybe I could type it in the same space as a letter?I've never used the forum before and I don't even know if anyone will see this.Any and al
This is more of a rant than a question, but any help would be greatly appreciated.I'm doing a lot of business with a label supplier in Malaysia... I'm in the US. I provide the supplier with Illustrator files containing the graphics/type I need and they make my labels. My company uses Univers 65 Bold exclusively which usually makes it really easy for us to work with suppliers. We recently switched to OpenType format (from Type 1) and asked that our supplier purchase the font on their end. Much to our surprise that turned out to be extremely difficult. So difficult in fact that my supplier still hasn't been able to purchase the font. First of all, there's no way for them to buy the font online and download it. The Adobe Malaysia store doesn't sell fonts and it's not possible for them to buy the font from the US store. Apparently they have to go through a official reseller. Well, the reseller tells them that they have to buy Font Folio
Looks like Font Folio 11.1 released today, per http://adobe.com/products/fontfolio.Can anyone tell us what is new in the past 5 years? I had hoped for some better glyph coverage in fonts like Utopia, but I don't see any evidence of that in the documentation, but I'm still hopeful? The list of 80 additional fonts does not seem all that exciting for Western users, but perhaps much more so for users of other Arabic, Hebrew, Devanagari, etc.Comparing the PDF font listings, here's what the new faces are:HypatiaPro-ExtraLight.otfHypatiaPro-ExtraLightIt.otfHypatiaPro-Light.otfHypatiaPro-LightIt.otfHypatiaPro-Regular.otfHypatiaPro-It.otfHypatiaPro-Semibold.otfHypatiaPro-SemiboldIt.otfHypatiaPro-Bold.otfHypatiaPro-BoldIt.otfHypatiaPro-Black.otfHypatiaPro-BlackIt.otfKinesisPro3-Light.otfKinesisPro3-LightItalic.otfKinesisPro3-Regular.otfKinesisPro3-Italic.otfKinesisPro3-Semibold.otfKinesisPro3-SemiboldItalic.otfKinesisPro3-Bold.otfKinesisPro3-BoldItalic.otfKinesisPro3-Black.otfKinesisPro3-BlackIta
Hello everyoneI'm doing a job using Helvetica Neue for a client who has specified that it should be from the Monotype foundry. On checking mine (in Quark's utilities) it says what I'm using is a Adobe Systems Type 1 Postscript font. When I looked online to research about purchasing the Monotype version I keep finding it mostly available as either as Linotype or Adobe but Monotype is really rare, other than from 1 US font site. Certain sites imply that Linotype and Monotype is the same !!! Are they so different from the different foundries that text will reflow quite a bit? It's an expense that I can quite do without if I can help it.In addition I find it very confusing that there is a Helvetica Neue Roman AND a Helvetica Neue 55 (or light and 45 etc) in my drop down font menu. Is this because they are from 2 different foundries that has mixed up in my system? Sometimes when I get work back having used the '55', I find that it's been changed to the 'roman' version and I need to change i
I am on a mac snow leopard working mostly in Illustrator. Others apps InDesign, After Effects, Premiere. Can someone please explain AFM files, how and when to use them? Please correct or confirm, but my understanding is that AFM information is in the bitmapepd files of older formats, and within opentype, so there really is no need for .AFM files on the mac. If the kerning information is in the font already, then why do you always have to kern ones and periods in most fonts. Optical seems to do a better job than auto, but I often later have to tighten the tracking. Is auto using the AFM infomration in the font, and optical is using the Illustrator engine to calculate new kern pairs.
I am in the process of converting a document from Illustrator to InDesign. Many of the glyphs and ligatures in Illustrator aren't available in Indesign for the same font, Bickham Script Pro.I checked that all of the opentype settings between the two programs are the same.I'm currently using suitcase, but I've tried installing font explorer and I get the same problem.I'm out of ideas... any suggestions?
Typographically can someone confirm what is the correct way to do a bulleted list for print in a paragraph of text:For example:This is my bullet list headingBullet 1Bullet 2Bullet 3Continuation of paragarph blah blahorThis is my bullet list headingbullet 1bullet 2bullet 3Continuation of paragraphBasically would you bold the the title and run the bullets with one 'return' and a 1mm space after each bullet? or put double returns in.Hopefully someone can help and even suggest the proper/correct way to do this.
I've been searching for a list of fonts the are required for Adobe CS2, but can't seem to find a resource. Does anyone have this information? These would be fonts that belong in the "Reqrd" folder within /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/ (on Mac OS X). According to Extensis's Font Management in Mac OS X: Best Practices Guide (7th ed.), there are a handful of Myriad fonts that should not be removed from this folder: MyriaBol MyriaBolta Myriad MyriaIta MyriaRomI believe these are PostScript Type 1 files, representing Myriad Bold, Myriad Bold Italic, Myriad Italic, and Myriad Roman. Ironically, my Adobe "Reqrd" folder has no actual fonts inside it. But I did find these font files in my User library fonts folder on my current computer. So they've always been active, but apparently I'd lost track of their origin. Now I'm trying to confirm that these are the files t
As a designer, I spend a fair amount of time managing fonts. With OS X these days, about 90% of all my font problems are related to Helvetica Neue, which, as anybody who has been around the font block knows, is one of the required system fonts in OS X.As I was struggling with a Helvetica Neue installation on a new Mac yesterday, it struck me that the solution is pretty simple: Apple just needs to change the name of the font they are using.Think about it, if Apple would simply change the name of their version of Helvetica Neue and update OSX to look for the "new" font, we could use our own PS1 or OTF versions without any conflict. I know it sounds complicated, but I bet it could be done. I'm not holding my breath, but wouldn't it be great if Apple would recognize the trouble they've been causing designers for the past 10 years, and fix this problem once and for all.Failing that, how about if Adobe and/or Linotype and/or any other studio were to release an exact copy of Helvetica Neue un
A client wants to use it, and I can't find it! Can you help? Thank you so much. Suzan
I know this is a basic question, but I just purchased font management software and it's not finding my fonts (which I put into a folder on my hard drive). I think I should move all my fonts to my Hardrive/Library/Font folder, but how to do that? Currently my 1200 fonts are in alphabetized folders (A-Z) within a folder I just call "Font folder". How do I move all my fonts into the actual Library/Font folder? I've been a mac user for 25 years and a hardcore CS5 user, but I just don't understand font management! Now I'm thinking the fonts are slowing down CS5 because they're not organized appropriately. I bought Suitcase Fusion in hopes that I can turn off fonts I don't use often. Please help! Thanks!
For starters, I am not a graphic designer. I've come to this forum to get assistance from those of you who enjoy doing this type of thing. I'm getting a tattoo this weekend, but need someone to draw it up for me. I tried using GIMP2.6 (which my friend suggested), but could not, for the life of me, figure out how to accomplish what I wanted. I tried downloading both Illustrator and Photoshop (to no avail). This stuff may as well be Hebrew. I'm just not talented at all when it comes to this type of thing. I'm looking to get a tattoo of a triquetra using this verse (And now abideth faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. I Cor 13:13). The verse itself will be in the form of the triquetra. I don't know how to twist/turn/shape text into a desired shape. If any of you could help me with this, I'd GREATLY appreciate it. I'd like the font to be Lucinda Handwriting. And the image itself can be no smaller than 3"x3" and no larger than 4"x4" (though I'm sure the size ca
