Question

Open Type or PS Type 1

I have a lot of old docs from OS9 using Stempel Schneidler. When I try to load the old PS1 font in my new computer (iMac, running OSX 10.7.5) it tells me there is serious damage. So I need to buy a replacement Stempel Schneidler. Should I get the current Open Type font, or the deprecated PS Type 1 font? Is the Open Type compatible with my old docs if I update them to InDesign, or import them as eps or pdf? Thanks for any opinion.

After a bit of experimenting, I find that I get "serious error" messages for all the old Type 1 fonts I try to open in OSX. This is for OSX 10.7.5. On another computer running 10.4.11 there is no problem. Are Type 1 fonts compatible with OS Lion? Do I have to buy all new open type fonts? This seems a bit extreme.

How are you trying to "open" the fonts on your 10.7.5 computer? Use a type manager program, copy into your User Fonts folder, copy into a System folder?

Font Book, Command-O, locate the folder, open.
