Question about licensing of font prior to 2023

I created a label designfor a client in 2017 using the Adobe font "Veneer".

My client is now being approached by someone claiming to be the foundry, stating the "font EULA, appears to be restricted use, yet the foundry Yellow Design Studio has no record of the appropriate license extension(s) having been purchased. This font was not included in my Adobe Cloud subscription prior to January 2023."

My understanding (according to the Adobe website terms & cond.) is that the Adobe font is already installed on my end as I own an Adobe Creative Cloud license and pay monthly for it in order to service my clients.  Thus I did not need to purchase an extra license.

Anyone have any insights into this? Any help would be appreciated.

The issue seems to be time lines of when the fonts were used. And maybe even which styles of the fonts were used. One other possible issue is the unit volume of product your client was producing. I bought copies of Veneer and Veneer Clean several years ago; one thing I noticed in the EULA under the "you may not" category was:
"• Use the fonts for large volume commercial projects"

What kind of artwork did you provide to your client? Was it artwork that still contained editable type? When I'm finished editing a logo design or other graphical design containing type I'll convert all the lettering to raw outlines. Doing that makes the artwork more portable to be able to hop from one computer to another. Converting the lettering to raw outlines removes any font data as well. Visually, it's still possible to tell what fonts were used in a design though.

I don't remember when Veneer was added to Adobe Fonts; if they say January of 2023 that might be right. Veneer was first released in 2012 -and at a pretty dramatic introductory price discount if I recall correctly. Strangely, the fonts aren't available to buy anymore at the MyFonts website. Adobe Fonts carries six styles of Veneer but doesn't carry the two "extras" styles. Adobe Fonts also doesn't carry the Veneer Clean family (which also has 8 fonts).
