I've got two text entry boxes on one screen and would like to set it up so that when they enter text into one, they can tab to the next one. I am giving them instructions regarding what to type in each box, but am not going to stop them from continuing if they type something different.
Any suggestions? Is this something simple and I am just missing it? or is it not possible at all?
Thanks for any help.
Marge
Ah, right. I see the problem - mine requires an exact entry, so I can use a screenshot with the completed text field on the next slide, clearly that won't work in your case.
A possible solution then would be to have the first text box pause very early in the slide, with both success and failure set to continue.
Then have the second text box start on the timeline just after the pause for the first.
When the user completes the first field by typing then pressing tab, it should move the timeline on to

I have this in a simulation where the users needs to type a product code then tab into a quantity field.
To do this what I did was to set up the text entry field without a button (Options, untick Show Button), added Tab as a shortcut (Under Set Shortcut Keys, Select Keys, then picked Tab and okayed everything), set it to go to next slide (for yours you'll want it to go to next slide for correct and incorrect entries), then added the second text box to the following slide.
One thing that you might need to point out to your users though is that if they click outside of captivate before they press tab, pressing tab will scroll through the playbar buttons rather than move them to the next slide.

I want the text that they entered into the first text box to still be on the screen when they tab to the second text box. If I have them move to another slide, that won't be the case. I'm trying to simulate them filling out a form ... the screen capture in the background is an image of the empty form.
The tab key seems to work ... it just doesn't tab to the next entry field.
Thanks.

When the user completes the first field by typing then pressing tab, it should move the timeline on to the start of the next text box and make it active.
You'd have to be careful that there wasn't a big gap between the text boxes starting and the pauses as you'd then have the user wondering why nothing was happening for a while after they tabbed.
I've tested a very basic version of this out - blank slide with 3 text boxes added [ first 0 seconds to 0.5, second 0.5 to 1, third 1 to 1.5] and this seems to be working.
[Note for all of the the text boxes I moved the pause along to the end of the box in the timeline for each so there is no inactive period after the pause - need to mouse over the box on the timeline till you get the double arrow as your cursor then drag it all the way to the right, it's a bit fiddly.]
Hope this helps

Moving the pause doesn't seem to be an option in Captivate 4. Am I missing something?

Hi Marge
Sadly my experience with C4 is very limited (still on C3 here).
There are 2 options available in C3 for pauses -presumably at least one still exists in C4.
The method I mentioned earlier involved changing the position of the pause on the timeline.
In this image you can see a faint grey vertical line separating the active and inactive parts of the text box on the timeline.
If you put your mouse pointer on the line, it should change to a double ended arrow and allow you to move the pause.
If this doesn't work you may be able to change the pause timing in the Options tab in the properties window for the text box. Here I have my text box on screen for 15 seconds (the full slide length) with a pause after 14.5.
Hope this is of use.
If these aren't available, hopefully someone with C4 experience would be able to point you in the right direction?

Thanks. It took some playing to get the positioning just right, but this did work.
