Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file

Community Beginner ,
Mar 04, 2011 Mar 04, 2011

So, after having trouble with my Photoshop scratch disk, I had to do an archive and install of my Mac OS 10.6.1 then reinstall the Adobe suite. I then had to run the Licensing Repair Tool (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/licensing.html).

Now everything works but Dreamweaver, which is throwing the following error:

"Dreamweaver encountered problems while constructing the menus from the current menus.xml file.

Please delete the current menus.xml file and rename menus.bak to menus.xml"

I tried that. menus.bak is a directory, not a file. Even renaming the directory didn't work.

I saw this http://forums.adobe.com/message/2188511#2188511

but I don't have a /FlashPlayerTrust/ directory, nor do I see what that has to do with Dreamweaver.

I couldn't find a corresponding solution for this http://forums.adobe.com/message/862339#862339 for the Mac OS.

This http://forums.adobe.com/message/3396334#3396334 didn't help, either.

Anybody have any ideas?

Thanks!

I received this same error this morning when I tried to open Dreamweaver CS5 (No document types have been found in the...). I am on a PC. There were very few posts about this so I thought I would post what worked for me. There must have been an update or something by Akamai.

I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS5\configuration\DocumentTypes and opened MMDocumentTypes.xml in Notepad++. There were about 100 lines of NULL in the Akamai configuration so I deleted all of info bet

menus.bak should definitely be a file. It's a backup of menus.xml.

For me, the xml file is in my Personal Config folder inside a folder named Menus.

Can you paste a screenshot of what you see in that folder?

Have you tried deleting the Configuration folder entirely and letting Dreamweaver re-build it next time it launches?

This is the error I got after deleting (moving) the configuration directory.

"No document types have been found in the Configuration/DocumentTypes/ folder. The MMDocumentTypes.xml file may be missing or corrupted. The application will exit now."

I've reinstalled the entire Adobe CS4 (which fixed my Photoshop problem but created this Dreamweaver problem) and then reinstalled Dreamweaver alone.

I've also attached a screenshot of the Dreamweaver directory tree with the menus.xml files.

Are you following this path to your personal configuration folder?

  • Mac OS X: Macintosh HD:<username>:Library:Application Support:Adobe:Dreamweaver CSx:<language>:Configuration
  • http://forums.adobe.com/thread/494812

Be sure to backup before overwriting!

What worked for me was to delete the dreamweaver folder (C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia) after uninstalling in preparation for a fresh installation

Al it means is your Workspace is corrupted.  It happens from time to time.

Try selecting another Workspace.  Depending on your version of DW, available Workspace will vary.

    Or  Restore preferences

    http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs4-cs5.html

    https://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/restore-preferences-dreamweaver-cs6-cc.html

Win: In CC, hold down Windows key + Ctrl + Shift while launching DW.  When prompted to Delete Preferences, hit YES.

Mac: Hold down Cmd + Option + Shift...

Thank you, @Nancy O, for your reply.  Unfortunately, that did not work.  I was trying to load the Dreamweaver CC beta but still continue to get the error after numerous reinstalls.  Now my Dreamweaver cc 2014 does not work either.

Post your public Beta issues in the Beta forums please.

    Dreamweaver Beta site

Bug and feature requests: Use  https://dreamweaver.uservoice.com/

The Beta is a work in progress meaning it's not complete and  Adobe's engineers need to know about any problems you're having .  Also indicate your OS and other details so they can hopefully reproduce the problem at their end.

I have the same error for the new 2017 Release, I have done everything to try and fix including server uninstalls and reinstalls.

Looking for a solution to fix. The error message below doesn't fix anything.

I am having this same Menus.xml problem. The document type you mention is not present and there are no NULL lines in MMDocumenttypes.xml.

The original post is from 2011.  A lot has changed since then.

Also turn on Hidden Items and Filename Extensions in your Windows File Explorer.
