I have a CD with pdf files for vintage Triumph Spitfires from the Heritage Motor Centre. The CD was created around 2005 and comes with Adobe 6 and was apparently originally used with Windows 98. How can I get the pdf files to open in Windows 11 Home or similar?

What error exactly?

Error reads "Adobe Acrobat Reader could not open '01.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded).
The files are actually saved on a CD and in perfect condition. The CD came with Acrobat Reader V6 which is apparently setup for Windows 98.

Ok, let's see if reading the CD is a problem for Acrobat.
Please copy a PDF file from the CD to your desktop. Then try to open with Acrobat. What happens with this one?
- doesn't copy to the desktop?
- reads ok?
- same error?
- something else?

If it opens in chrome then sure a bug. But we would need a file itself to fix the bug, obviously.

It doesn't open in Chrome or Explorer. Let me know how to send a copy of one pdf file if you can test.

Edit: I did a little Googling and found some information on this.
Apparently those CDs came with A DRM schemed (copy-protected) PDFs that are not comptaible with any current OS.

Try this:
Open the file in Notepad
What can you see at the first lines?
