Acrobat 8 printing problems

New Here ,
Dec 30, 2006 Dec 30, 2006
duplex printing of a pdf file on either an hp 1320n or hp4300n, with OS X 10.4.8. Using several pdf fIles with odd number of pages, the last (odd) page is printed backwards and upside down. Every time.
If I print just the last page, it is printed backwards and upside down.
If I quit Acrobat 8, launch A8, and then print the last page, it prints correctly. This would seem to eliminate the printing subsystem.

single (no duplex printing) printing, two pages per page (print dialog box option), of a pdf file. First page (original first/second page) prints OK, subsequent pages printed backwards and upside down. (Also after a relaunch of A8).

MacBook Pro 17, OS X 10.4.8, 2G RAM, A8 version 8.0.0 (initial release)
What is going on? Can anyone repeat this behavior?

Yes, I forgot to mention that it prints perfectly ok -whatever level of Distiller - when it's printed from Preview

Their you go. Then its an adobe problem. They won't admit it and it will be up to HP to fix the breakage.

Its a wonder that HP's President go over to Adobe with a Bat and clean house. :-)

It would seem obvious that if a company found out that something happened , only with their product and no one else, the would own up to the problem.

Guess I'll have to put on an asbestos suit. And hear the rather of all the adobe defenders on this forum. I've had to HP Printers in my computing life. and HP has always had to go through 5 or six revisions of their printer drivers just to accommodate changes in adobe products particularly Acrobat and Reader.

Thanks for your comments.
I just went back to Acrobat Standard version 7 and everything works perfectly.
Problem is clearly with Acrobat 8 that does not work well with LaserJet 2500 L.
Why bother with version 8?

And one final point....
Although I can't print correctly from Acrobat 8, I got one of the secretarial/admin people in the office to print from Acrobat 8 Reader to the same printer (going from a bog-standard PC) and that came out perfectly ok.

So the problem only arises with the combination of Acrobat 8/HP2550/Mac

Go to HP and see if there is an updated Print Driver for the mac. Your more likely to see HP give even though its not their problem.

"So the problem only arises with the combination of Acrobat 8/HP2550/Mac "
yes, and I can add that I still have the same problem (prints come out all red) with Mac OS X 5.1. no use in updating! I also installed the printer driver again, though it's only made for Mac OS X 4 (no higher version available). My config: HP color LaserJet 2550Ln, Mac G5, Adobe CS3.

Do you still have Acrobat 7 installed?

If so try and see it it works. If not then its a Adobe/HP conflict.

I'm having a problem with Acrobat 8. I have an HP LaserJet 5000n and we print a lot of PDF files to it. Lately it has been printing VERY slowly to the printer and only PDF files are slow. When we print a AutoCAD drawing from a PDF it just plain seizes up and doesn't print. I tried printing the same documents from another computer with adobe 7 and it printed just fine. Everyone with adobe 8 is having the same problem so it leads me to believe it is an adobe problem. Everyone is running Windows XP. Any suggestions?

I am also having issues with the whole page being red. I am running adobe 8 on a max (no leopard) and an hp cm1015. I've called hp and they said it has to be adobe. I reinstalled adobe with no luck, but the same document prints fine in preview.

Re: my post a bit further back....can you print ok if you open it in earlier Acrobat? And have you found any difference if you distill the PDF using different settings on Distiller?

Andrew - we are PC shop (sorry for posting in the MAC forum) but we have a HP 5000DN. Running windowsXP and Acrobat 8.1 we can only print the first page of a pdf - only from machines running the updated version anything version 7 and older prints fine. We have another printer on the network a Brother - we CAN print to that - so I wonder if it is an HP thing. I was searching for similar posts when i found this.

I'm having the same red printing problem with my HP 2605 from Acrobat Professional 8.1.2 on an iMac running Leopard. I just downloaded the latest HP driver tonight.

PDFs printed from Preview are fine and the PDFs I've tried to print come from different sources (exported from Quark, InDesign CS3, or downloaded brochures from the web).

Documents printed look like they have a rubylith overlay on objects with background color like photo images and solid boxes with type reversed.

On a mac in order to prevent strange Printer problems do the following:

download the new driver. (do not install at this time.

Go to Printer Utility and delete that instance of that printer. Quit printer Utility.

now use find file to find and locate the actual (old) print Driver should be installed in a specific folder for the brand of Printer.

Remove all instances to Trash.

Empty Trash.

Now and only now install the new print driver.

Now go back to Printer Utility and add the new driver.

if desired make it the default printer Driver.

Now go to acrobat and in printer set up choose the printer customize as desired and sve you customized setting and name accordingly. now try printing your document.

with each application you should customize how you want everything set up and name the customized file according to application. Then when you go to that application choose that custoimization

Mac 10.5.1 Can't get the Adobe Printer 7.0 to work through any application (Excel, Word, Lightroom) i.e creating PDF's

Trying to create a PDF using Acrobat of an Excel doc comes up with an Unsupported/Damaged file dialogue box

In Excel File--> Print --> Print --> Save does not produce a PDF Doc. Document appears in the Printer Queue window, however the doc status remains on Stopped even when printer is Resumed.

In Excel File--> Print --> PDF --> Save as PDF --> Save creates a document however there is no info in it. It does work in Word though.

What gives?

Problems with Leopard were fixed this week with the 8.1.2 update.
Nothing else will run properly.

Weird problem on one of my machines here. Intel iMac running 10.4.11 and Acrobat 8.1.2. When printing PDF files with multiple pages and selecting "Print All Pages", only the first page prints. If I select "Pages 2-n" where n is the last page, they all print fine. If I select 1-n, only the first page prints. The same documents print fine on other machines in Acrobat, and on the same machine in Preview. Consistent across printers. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Acrobat with no luck. Very weird

edit: for info, the printers are Canon iR 3170C and Canon IPR C1 with the latest drivers.

I'm also having the same problems on PPC 10.4.11 / Acrobat Pro 8.1 on any (PS) printer

The solution: don't use Acrobat Pro, but Acrobat Reader to print your files.

What about not being able to print at all from Acrobat 8?? Has anybody experienced that problem?

We are running OS 10.4.11 on pre-intel G5's, and printing to either a HP 5500 laserjet, or to an Epson Stylus Pro 4800 - as far as i can remember, no matter the source of the .pdf nothing will print from Acrobat Prof (8.0). Nothing... Luckily we still have Acrobat 7 still installed on our systems...

Thanks for any advice!

JJ

===> duplex pages print upside down

Yes, it's a known issue. To solve it you must disable the 'auto-rotate and center' function in the print menu and setup your page correctly (printer/size/orientation) in the page setup menu.

This issue affects both Acrobat Pro 8.1.x and Acrobat Reader 8.1.x

===> not printing / extremely slow printing

Acrobat Pro 8.1.x. prints irradicate. With times going up to 5 minutes for a simple text page it is unmanageble. Also print file sizes are different each time. My solution so far is to use AcrPro for everything but printing and uses AcrReader for printing purposes only.

I had the same problem. I installed my HP printer
with the generic postscript driver and then I could
print with Acrobat Pro

Same problem - cannot print 2-up 2-sides. iMac24, OS 10.4.11, Reader 8.1.2, 3gb ram, 200+GB disk space. 292 page document. Prints perfectly from Preview. System is new and I am not going to re-install anything. Tried printing from page 2 instead of 1 and it looks like it works, but I cannot reprint the entire 292 page document as a test. After suffering with the mirror-image printouts, I thought Adobe might have actually fixed all their printing issues, but I was wrong.

Hi

I am on a PC and cannot print PDFs from Adobe 8. It says it is printing and the little "Printing now" icon will come up, but nothing happens and regardless of the actual size of the document, the icon always read "1 page printed." My printer is the HP LaserJet 1320n. It prints fine from Word, the internet, etc., just not PDFs.

Any help?

Thanks!

The only work-around that appears to help is under Print set up click on advanced settings then check the box "print as image"

See if that works.

This is very frustrating and I am a bit dismayed that as long as this problem has been reported it continues with NO good solution from either Adobe or HP.
