Acrobat fails to print any and all documents

New Here ,
Apr 29, 2025 Apr 29, 2025

No matter what file I try to print, I see this:

Followed by:

Jeffrey15D5_1-1745944665948.png

And it happens no matter which pages I choose to print:

Acrobat failing to print is like McDonald's running out of cheeseburgers.  Unbelievable.

Hi @Jeffrey15D5

Sorry for the troubled experience, and thank you for reaching out.

Considering the App version installed on your machine https://adobe.ly/3RCvEE7 was released Jan 2023. And nothing has changed since on your machine from Adobe's side.

And considering the error message. This error typically appears when:

  • The document contains non-printable content (like layers or objects marked as non-printing).

  • Pages are corrupt or use an unsupported structure.

  • Form fields or annotations are present but not selected for printing.

  • The print range is invalid (e.g., if you’re trying to print only blank or hidden pages).

It can also happen when printing certain PDFs created or optimized in third-party tools that don’t fully comply with PDF standards. Although printing such files from a third-party app may work just fine, they ignore structural, schema, and other issues related to the file.

To isolate and resolve the issue:

  1. Try printing as an image:

    • Go to File > Print, then click Advanced.

    • Enable “Print as Image” and try printing again.

    • This bypasses complex rendering issues in the file.

  2. Check print range and settings:

    • Ensure a valid page range is selected (not blank).

    • In the Print dialog, confirm that “Document and Markups” is selected under “Comments & Forms” (if your file contains annotations or form elements).

  3. Run “Preflight” or “Print Production” checks (Acrobat Pro only):

    • Use Print Production > Preflight to detect structural issues.: https://adobe.ly/3RC421X

    • This can reveal hidden layers or invalid objects causing the issue.

Let us know how it works at your end.

I tried printing 5+ different documents from different sources and I always see the same errors.

I won't print as an image because that results in an unacceptable loss in print quality.

The documents pass preflight checks without error.  I don't think this problem is related to the documents I'm trying to print.

Please send me a document you're sure is valid and I'll try to print it and confirm I see the same error message.

Thank you radzmar, but the command in linked discussion reported an error:

% cd "/Applications/Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.app/Contents/Resources/Resource/TypeSupport/Unicode/Mappings"
cd: no such file or directory: /Applications/Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.app/Contents/Resources/Resource/TypeSupport/Unicode/Mappings

LATEST

Hello Jeffrey!

I hope you are doing well.

Thanks for trying all the steps and sharing additional details.

From the screenshot, I see that you have version 22.003.20314 installed. Are you using a perpetual license for Acrobat, meaning the application is activated with a serial number, or are you signing in with your Adobe ID (email) to activate the product? I’m asking this because if you are using the Continuous version and have version 22.003.20314 installed on your machine, it was released in January 2023. The latest version of Acrobat is 25.001.20474 for Windows and 25.001.20476 for Mac, released on April 28, 2025. Please check for the latest updates for Acrobat by going to the Menu > Help > Check for Updates. Download any available updates, restart your machine, and try printing again.

If you are using the Classic version of Acrobat 2024, activated with a serial number, the latest version available is: 24.001.30246. A planned update is scheduled for April 08, 2025. To learn more about the updates, see this article: https://adobe.ly/3YpyHTW

If the issue persists with the latest version of Acrobat, please create a new test user profile with full admin rights, install Acrobat, and try printing.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.
