Acrobat integration with Dropbox shared folder

New Here ,
Nov 06, 2024 Nov 06, 2024

Hello, I work with a team that shares a Dropbox team account.  Most of the files we share are PDFs.  Before an update Dropbox executed in April 2024, I was able to open the files directly through Acrobat Pro and interact with them without downloading the PDF to my desktop (in Acrobat, Home > Other file storage > Dropbox).  Opening PDFs in Dropbox without downloading does not give me the functionality I need for my work and my desktop does not have a lot of space, which is part of why we use Dropbox in the first place.   My understanding is, in the April update, Dropbox created personal folders for each member of the team and Acrobat now looks in my personal folder, which is not where the shared files I need to access are located.  Dropbox tells me this is an Adobe problem and that Dropbox allows third parties to access the shared folder and that Adobe needs to integrate Dropbox's API into their software (I don't know what that means).  Adobe support tells me this is a Dropbox problem.  All I know is my work got harder.   Does anyone know a way to force Acrobat to look in my Dropbox shared team folder?  Thanks

Hi @katie_4896,

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble, and the delayed response.

In case you are still looking for a solution, you might want to try the below suggestions:

      • Make sure Acrobat is connected to Dropbox: In Acrobat Pro, go to Home > Other file storage > Dropbox. If it's still linked, try disconnecting and reconnecting to your Dropbox account to see if it refreshes the file paths.
      • Navigate directly to the shared folder: If Acrobat no longer shows the shared team folder by default, try accessing it through Dropbox’s web interface (via https://adobe.ly/4b9B42j) to locate your shared folder. You can then open the file directly from the Dropbox website or re-link Dropbox in Acrobat.
  • Ensure the Dropbox desktop app is installed on your computer and syncing files locally. This will let you work with files directly through Acrobat, even if they are not physically stored on your computer. You can work with files that are "online-only" (not taking up space) and still open them in Acrobat without downloading to your desktop.
  • You can also try accessing files in your Dropbox folder directly through Acrobat (through File > Open), and Acrobat should let you open files stored in Dropbox via the local sync without needing to download them fully.
  • If Acrobat is still not finding the shared folder, you can manually create a shortcut to the folder you want to access in Dropbox. If you're using the Dropbox desktop app, you can create a shortcut to the shared folder in your Dropbox > Apps > Adobe Acrobat (or whatever directory you’re using). This may help Acrobat "see" the files directly in the shared location.

Hope this helps.
