Acrobat locked up when trying to combine 3 jpegs into 1 pdf

I combine files all the time in Acrobat and never have any issues. I scanned 3 jpegs with my scanner just now and chose 'combine multiple files into a pdf'. I load them into this window (see attached screenshot) and then my rainbow wheel starts spinning, and doesn't go away. It's completely locked up in the middle of the progress bar saying "checking for security settings". I did a computer restart and tried all over again and got the same results. It was working fine just a day or two ago. And I haven't updated Adobe Creative Cloud or Acrobat for days now.  How do I fix this?? Please help!

Try drag and drop as an alternate to combining. Or try to convert to individual PDF files first. may be one of your files is "bad".

i had to convert the files to PDF's first and then combined them and it didnt freeze that time. But it shoudnt lock up with the spinning rainbow wheel over jpegs. That needs to be rectified.
