Acrobat Pro 2017 shuts down when trying to edit PDF form field names. Why?

I've successfully edited PDF form field names in the past, but now the program shuts down when I try to do it. I created a new document in Word &printed it to PDF. I opened it in Acrobat Pro 2017 and used Prepare Form to make it a PDF form. Then -- still in Prepare Form -- I wanted to edit a few of the field names. I clicked on a field, then mouse clicked & selected either Properties or Rename Field, then after just a couple of seconds, the whole program shut down.

What's happening all of a sudden & how do I fix it?

Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble. As described the application is shutting down.

What is the version of the Adobe Acrobat 2017 you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the latest version installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once and check. For more information please look at the help page: https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotesDC/index.html

Are you on Mac or Windows machine and what is the version of the OS?

Please try to repair the installation (Windows Only) from the help menu > repair installation.

If it still doesn't work, please try to turn off the protected mode for testing (Windows Only). Go to Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup', turn off the protected mode and uncheck enhanced security > Click OK and reboot the computer.
Note: Turning off the Protected mode may possess security risks. Please turn on the security after testing.

If it still doesn't work, please create a new test user profile in Windows or enable the root account in Mac and try using the application there and check.
