Hi Adobe,
I don't know what happened with Acrobat Pro 2023, but its a nightmare of slow redraw and unusable page scrolling. If I open anything mildly hi-res (300pdi and up) at a larger format A2, A1 etc. its almost impossible to zoom in to a large detail or move about the page. This did not happen on the previous version that I was using Acrobat Pro 2020. What has happened? I need this program to be able to check large format jobs for print, currently it's unusable. I have to force quite after I do one zoom or it will beach ball for an eternity trying to redraw the image.
I'm on a Macbook Pro M1 Max, 64GB Ram, 1TB HD with plenty of space. Ventura 13.6.
Adobe Creative Cloud gives me no way to revert back to an older usable version. Please advise how I can select an older versionto install, as I cannot do my job with this program as it is. Please Help!
Many thanks,
GG.

The following helped with acrobat slowness on my Mac Studio M1 Max
go to Adobe Acrobat > Preferences > Page Display > Rendering > Uncheck 'Use page cache' > Click OK and reboot the computer once.

Very pleased turning off these options has solved the issue of redwaring when zooming in. this is in OSX 12.5 Monterey. Acrobat 24. 2015 27" iMac. Is odd as I had tried turing off the whole smoothing which ad not helped. But turning off the individual checkboxes has. I did find turing them on again caused the issue to return. Thank you.

Word's English translation is:
For rough documents, read only currently visible pages

Cool, here's the translation. My Acrobat was already set to that, and it is entirely possible it switched to that when I unchecked "Smooth line art" and "Smooth images". Either way, works is works 🙂

Also, I'm having to keep them unchecked, since there was a recurrence (although the lag was short). Since I saw no deal breaking difference between on and off I'm not heart broken.

To clarify, I saw no deal breaking image quality difference. The performance difference between turning those two off or leaving them on is night and day ("off" being day. or good. you know what i mean).

Yes I had tried turning off the smooth images and did see some improvment but still having problems and issues with large files and tring to work with PIT-Stop.
FUSTRATION is still an ongoing thing!

I don't know if this helps with pitstop, but also, when I tried unchecking just smooth images alone it went away and then came back. When I tried with unchecking "Smooth line art" it stayed fixed (so far, to be clear). Maybe that works for you, I sure hope so.

This will continue to be an issue as it ALWAYS has been. Adobe simply does not care to fix these issues. We are a large format print shop and find Acrobat quite painful to use also. It is exremely frustrating.

What are the other options for working with PDFs?

If you have illustrator, you can do a lot by either dragging the PDF onto Illustrator, or by placing the PDF into Illustrator & then embedding it. Acrobat can still be funtional for most things, so long as the PDF is not giving you screen re-draw troubles. Frequently even the screen re-draw problem can be overcome by just leaving Acrobat & going to another app for a bit

Opening print ready PDF's in Illustrator is just asking for a problem.
First some of the files that I deal with are far to complex to even attempt opening in another app.
Fonts than become the next issue.
I know large format printers open PDF files in Illustrator but always have font issues and request all fonts as outlines.
More liability and fustration explaining what happened.

You can always select a PDF placed in Illustrator & "Flatten Trasparency" making sure to select "Convert All Text To Outlines"

Yup. Product is garbage and frustrating to use. Hangs up all the time. Not like you guys have been doing this forever. Do better.

Almost 6 months since this issue was highlighted and it's clear nothing is going to be done to rectify it. This can only be because a) Adobe don't know what the issue is (unlikely), b) Adobe don't care about fixing it (possible but unlikely), c) Adobe are gearing up to replace it completely (possible but no news) or d) Adobe know exactly what the issue is but it will cost too much to fix it (most likely).
But, whatever the truth, they'll still happily take your money for it every month.

Adobe is dumpping all it's resources into AI realted features.
I'm going with B they dont care!!!
I'm sure they will roll out a completly new Acrobat Pro with bells and whistles we dont want or care about (AI)
I just want a stable platform where I can view high resolution images and make eidits using the PitStop plug-in.
Is that too much to ask for? Were all paying for a defective product! How about a credit Adobe??
If we dont meet our customers expectations we issue a credit or reprint. You can clearly see they dont care.

I could be wrong, but this seems to be an issue that is isolated to Apple silicon (I have no such issue on my non-M chip machines). If that's the case it would not be too much of a stretch to assume Adobe feels this is an Apple problem, something to be solved in Cupertino. Maybe. Or at least not a high priority. The fact that it's not an issue with Illustrator (or InDesign) means it's Acrobat code only. I'm guessung it's acrobat trying to find a graphics card that isn't there. At any rate, I'm pretty sure no one is coming to save us any time soon, best to get in there and figure something out on our own. do I want to be credited the money back for lost time/productivity? Sure. But I also have to get my work done. I assure you I will be the first to take up torch and pitchfork when that moment comes, but right now is solutions time 🙂

I have had this issue since the upgrade and my system is Windows, with Intel chip.
I agree that Adobe is hyperfocused on AI. It seems they do not give a hoot about non AI users that pay for their software.

Unfortunately, it happens on both our Intel and M2 chip Macs here.

Yes, this is not just an Apple issue but an Acrobat issue for sure!
My Acrobat updated yesterday only to get me pissed off yet another update with no subatance!

Not sure why this has been labelled as the 'correct answer', as unfortunately, this has not solved the issue for me on either Intel or M2 Macs.

This is one of the most basic, original and widely used tool in the whole program and its been over 6 months without any solution?

Our engineering team has collected the samples at our end and it was showing that the rendering thread was on waiting state and to fix that we need some infra level change. Can you please collect the samples while this issue is happening to see if the issue occurrs because of the same reason or not?
Steps to collect Sample of a process:
- Open Terminal
- Run Command: sample <pid of Acrobat> >> ~/sample.txt
- It will generate sample.txt in root folder - share that file via any cloud storage of your choice.
<pid of Acrobat> is a placeholder for the process id of Acrobat.
You can run this command instead if you ares using Acrobat & find difficulties in finding PID of Acrobat:
sample AdobeAcrobat >> ~/Sample.txt
Root folder is /Users/<username> folder.

Agreed. Major issues.
If one attempts to edit a PDF with lots of drawings in it, the redraw is extremely lagging an unusuable.
Again Mac Pro M1 Max.
Changing those preferences makes no difference to the issue.
