Acrobat Pro DC won't complete installation on my Macbook Pro.

I've tried several times to install the download from https://cloud.acrobat.com/acrobat?trackingid=KSCNY  and each time install errors out at about 50% through. I'm on a Macbook Pro running Sierra.

do you have an acrobat subscription?

if so, you should install the cc desktop app from here https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud and use it to install your acrobat subscription.

I do, but I never get to the point of seeing a log in screen - just a generic message that the installer encountered an "unexpected failure" and to try again then contact support. I contacted support and after sitting in chat the agent just disconnected me without offering any solution.
