Acrobat Pro Mac FileOpen Plugin Not Working

New Here ,
May 12, 2025 May 12, 2025

I am running Adobe Acrobat Version 2025.001.20476 for Mac, and I have an active Acrobat Pro license.

A PDF that I need to use is secured using FileOpen plugin.    Everytime I try to open this PDF, it redirects me to the FileOpen download page.  I have installed the FileOpen plugin several times, and does not show up in my list of plugins under Acorbat / About Adobe Plugins menu.

I have been working with FileOpen Support for a week now, and I they cannot figure out what is going on.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi there

Hope you're doing well, and sorry for the trouble.

The FileOpen plugin doesn’t always work well on Macs, especially if you're using the newest version of Acrobat or macOS. You're using Acrobat 2025.001.20476, which is very new, so the plugin might not be ready for it yet.

Please check FileOpen’s website to see if the version you're installing works with your version of Acrobat and macOS.

To make sure the plugin shows up in Acrobat, it needs to be installed in the right place:

Correct location on Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/DC/Plug-ins

After installing it, restart Acrobat. Then go to Help > About Adobe Plug-Ins to see if FileOpen appears.

Also, macOS sometimes blocks plugins without showing a message. please check

  1. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security.
  2. Scroll down to Security and look for any message about blocked plug-ins or apps.
  3. If you see FileOpen there, click "Allow".

Finally, check if Acrobat has Full Disk Access: Go to Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access and make sure Acrobat is turned on there.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you, but none of those listed items worked.  I tried uninstalling the FileOpen on my computer then reinstalling the latest dmg from FileOpen's site, and that did not work.

The FileOpen plugin does show up in ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/DC/Plug-ins.  However, it does not show up in the list in Acrobat / About Adobe Plug-ins.

I have no idea what to do.

FileOpen support was able to figure out the issue.  I had the use only first party plugins box checked in my Acrobat.  Once I unchecked that and restarted Acrobat I am able to open my document.
