So....

I have Acrobt Pro XI and, I know, it's retired and out of support BUT it does what I want for now.  I just asked Adobe via live chat for the upgarde path to Acrobat Pro 2020 (standalone) only to be told that it is not sold by Adobe.

Sent a link to the live chat host of the product for sale on the Adobe Site only to be told that it is being discontinued soon - can someone shed some light on what is happening with Acrobat Pro?

TIA

On behalf of Adobe …

If someone from Adobe actually told you that Acrobat Pro 2020 is (1) being discontinued soon and/or (2) that you couldn't buy it directly from Adobe, then they either didn't understand the question and/or were terribly misinforming you. We'd love to know the identity of any agent who gave you wrong or misleading information (if using chat, that information would have been on your screen).

As indicated by @Bernd Alheit, go to https://www.adobe.com/products/catalog.html#category=pdf, click on Acrobat Pro 2020 and you may license the product directly from there.

1. Adobe want everyone to use the subscription product. Acrobat Pro DC is the subscription replacement and is STRONGLY recommended because both Microsoft and Apple regularly stop old apps from working.

2. There is also Acrobat Pro 2020, which is a perpetual license. I have not heard of any specific plans that it will be discontinued, but who knows what forces are at work inside Adobe?

3. You CANNOT buy an upgrade from XI (well you could but it would be money thrown away). It is many years too late; upgrade pricing is only available from Acrobat Pro 2017. You would need to purchase Acrobat 2020 at full price.

Thanks for the reply, I got more information from that than from the liveChat!!

1.  I got that impression -  although I stated that I wanted a standalone and not a plan teh first thing I was offered was a subscription!

2.  I confirmed with the advisor, they said 2020 was being discontinued, they wouldn't continue selling it and that I should buy it from a reseller (even though I sent a link to the Adobe site with Acrobat Pro for sale!).

3. I'll look into AcrobatPro at full price, or maybe just use my student status if it looks too expensive!!

2. I doubt that's true, but since they already changed it to require online activation they might as well discontinue it completely, as it's now basically just a less-feature rich version of Acrobat DC...
