Acrobat pro want launch after Win 11 24H2 update

Explorer ,
Oct 02, 2024 Oct 02, 2024

My Acrobat Pro won't launch after I installed the Win11 24H2 update.
Acrobat distiller works as does LR & PS.
When acrobat is started no window opens but it can be seen in the task manager.
I have uninstalled via Creative Cloud but now I can't re-install as it gets stuck at 30%.

Anyone else having this problem after updating to Win11 24H2 (full official release, not the pre-release version)

Hi @Jacopo Bellini.,

We are closely working with Microsoft on this.

Meanwhile you can try running the app in compatibility mode.

To do so, right-click the Acrobat app icon-> properties-> Compatibility-> check the checkbox saying, "Run the app in compatibility mode"-> select Windows 8-> Apply-> OK.

Hi @weiwei_8201 Sorry for the trouble.

Would you mind trying to launch the app in compatibility mode?

To do so, right-click the app icon-> properties-> compatibility-> check the box saying, "Run app in compatibility mode"-> select Windows 8-> Apply-> OK.

Let me know if that works.

Hi All,

I am facing an issue caused by AppContainers and Windows 11 24H2 causing typical load time for Adobe Acrobate Pro to be around 40 seconds.

I have found this article and this workaround resolved the issued by disabling AppContainers. https://scribehow.com/shared/Update_Adobe_Preferences_PDFs_Opening_Slowly__YVexGASJSZq3lLyUE_yByw

I have patched to the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Pro, is there an upto date version or a fix coming soon?

Hi @node27,

Thanks for sharing the link.

That is the exact workaround I have shared above.

We are working towards a Permanent fix, and it should be available with the upcoming update.

Hi Support,

May I know when is the fix is going to be released?

Do you have an estimated timeline?

We are going to purchase new laptops and default image will be Win11 24h2 and our concern is that this will affect most of our users who using FileOpen.

Thank you.

I need CIE colorimetry standards for my work. They are FileOpen protected. I use another lightweight PDF viewer as Windows standard pdf app (sumatrapdf), but for those standards, which are not cheap, I'm forced to use Adobe Reader. While I the Win8 compatibility workaround lets me view the files at least, it's a nuisance, because it insists ton repeating the "Tour" every time. In November, Souvik said "...update early December". Well, that didn't happen. Do you have a more reliable date? Thanks! Julius

Rather then reduce your systems security you could also disable the DRM in the document. Lawful?

Hi @BlueSky Studio,

We are live with the new release (2024.005.20307) which has a fix for the issue.

Please update the app and let us know if it helps.

You can check for it by going to Menu-> Help-> Check for Updates.

Hi @Jacopo Bellini,

If you are able to launch Acrobat with Compatibility mode, would you mind trying the below steps:

1. Go to Preferences-> Security(enhanced)-> uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at Startup."

2. Disable Compatibility mode-> try launching the app again.

3. Also, please help us gather the logs from your machine: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-diagnostics.html. Please make sure Procmon is selected. You can upload logs using this tool and share your Unique log ID with us.

When trying out the above steps, please keep the Acrobat Diagnostics enabled, and allow it to record the entire event.

Thanks,

Souvik

@Jacopo Bellini,

It would be ctrl+K once Acrobat is launched.

Also, please make sure to run the Diagnostics tool while you do this. This will help us analyze the event and get to the fix quicker.

I am not even able to open the installers, I have tried both acrobat and creative cloud 32 bit installers. I run them, I can see them running in the task manager, but nothing happens from there. I've tried compatability mode, and I obviously can't get into the app to change the protected mode. Any other things to try?

Hi @john_8599

If you are using a 64-bit system, would you mind trying to install the 64-bit version from the given link: Download Acrobat installer for Enterprise term or VIP license

Let me know how it goes.

I can confirm unchecking "Enable Protected Mode at Startup" and disabling "Compatability mode" works for me.  Version 24.005.20320.

I can also confirm that with Windows 11 24H2 and Adobe Acrobat Pro 64-bit Version 24.005.20320, with the FileOpen Client 64-bit Build 998 that:

1. Without any changes, Adobe Acrobat Pro initially will not open. Acrobat.exe App tasks are visible in Task Manager, but no window appears on the screen.

2. In File Explorer, changing the Compatibility settings on Acrobat.exe for Windows 8 allows Acrobat Pro to open (provided all previous "stalled" Acrobat.exe Apps are killed off first)

3. Going to Preferences-> Security(enhanced)-> unchecking "Enable Protected Mode at Startup.", and then exiting all running Acrobat Pro instances and going back to File Explorer and disabling Compatibility for Windows 8 allows me to start Acrobat Pro successfully, and to open up FileOpen protected PDF files.

4. Going to Preferences-> Security(enhanced)-> checking "Enable Protected Mode at Startup." again, and then closing and attempting to re-run Acrobat Pro gets me back to the same state as Step #1.

What this tells me is that "Enabled Protected Mode at Startup" is still not possible when NOT running in Windows 8 Compatibility Mode, which seems like this leaves Acrobat Pro with a potential "security hole" in its execution environment.

In other words, this is still a "workaround" rather than a "permanent fix" to this issue and more work is needed by Adobe, FileOpen and/or Microsoft to get back to the way things were functioning (in all regards) prior to the Windows 11 24H2 update being installed.

Please continue to work on a permanent fix!
