I have recently bought and install Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020. Whenever I try to encrypt a PDF file, the "Apply" button does not react to clicking. When I then choose "encrypt with password" from the dropdown menue and go through the menu, I get the following error at the end of the procedure:
"Allgemeiner Fehler des Kryptografiesystems". The PDF file is not encrypted and nothing else happens. I already tried the following:
1) repair of installation
2) full wipe of the installation and clean re-install
3) resetting all settings in the app
It is the extact copy of a similar error by another user (WernerGg). You can find the thread when you search for the following keywords: "Allgemeiner Fehler des Kryptografiesystems". Unfortunately this thread ends without a solution.
Could you please hlep me in fixing the error? Thank you very much.

You can insert a link to the referred thread, that is much easier: https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/allgemeiner-fehler-des-kryptografiesystems/td-p/1...

Hi there
Hope you are doing well and thanks for reaching out.
Have you started experiencing this issue recently?
What is the version of the OS and the Acrobat 2020 you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 20.05.30574 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.
Also, share the screenshot of the error message and the Adobe CC logs https://adobe.ly/3y47sE3 , Procmon logs (Win Only) https://adobe.ly/4dllAcc and share them via any cloud storage of your choice. Just upload the log file to the cloud and generate the link and share it with us for further investigation.
Regards
Amal

Hi Amal,
many thanks for looking into this! I have just recently started using Acrobat Pro since I used a different PDF program before. I experienced the issue straight from the start (never worked).
I work with Windows 10 Pro N Version 22H2 (up to date according to Windows Update) and have the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 installed (v. 2020.005.30574).
Here is a link to the logs collected with Adobe CC and Procmon:

I also attached a screenshot of the error. I sometimes also get a reading error (57). I am not sure they are related, but I also attached a screenshot for this error.
Thanks again for your help!
Best regards,
Alex

Hi Amal,
thanks! Any news on this issue? Encrypting PDFs is one of my main use cases and if this problem is not solved I need to look for another PDF software.
Best regards, Alex
