Adobe Acrobat - Can't highlight text, scroll, or move tabs

New Here ,
Jan 21, 2022 Jan 21, 2022

Acrobat DC Pro (on a HP Windows desktop) won't let me highlight text using my cursor (i.e. clicking and dragging), won't scroll down the page if I hold down my mouse scrollbar, and doesn't  recognise when I click and drag a tab to move it to another monitor.

The PDFs are not an image (I can highlight text if I use my keyboard or double click one word). I've tried 'save as' in the print function which I saw has been suggested for a similar issue, I've tried repairing the installation, and I've tried amending my NVIDIA/Acrobat settings, but nothing has worked. The only thing I can do is uninstall and reinstall Acrobat every. time. I want to use it.

Using Adobe is the majority of my day-to-day job, and it's taking up so much time. Help!

Hi there

Hope you are doing well and sorry to hear that.

Would you mind sharing the version of the Adobe Acrobat DC you are using? To check the version go to Help > About Acrobat and make sure you have the recent version 21.11.20039 installed. Go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the computer once.

As you have already tried repairing the installation with no luck, please try to reset the Acrobat preferences as described here https://community.adobe.com/t5/acrobat-discussions/how-to-reset-acrobat-preference-settings-to-defau...

You may also try to turn off the protected mode for testing (Win Only) Go to Edit > Preferences > Enhanced Security > Uncheck 'Enable protected mode at startup' turn off the protected mode and uncheck 'Enhanced Security' > Click OK and reboot the application.
Note: Please turn on the security after testing to avoid any security risk.

You may also try to create a new test user profile with full admin rights in Windows and try using the application there and check.

Amal

Hi Amal,

Turning off 'Enhanced Security' works, but when I turn it back on it stops working again. Any ideas how I can get it to work with security turned on?

Many thanks.

Hi @DKingFreelance

Please go through the help page https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/protected-mode-troubleshooting-reader.html for more information about Protected mode troubleshooting and see if that helps.

Also, make sure you have the application updated to the recent version, 22.3.20258 or 22.3.20263 optional update (Win Only) and reboot the computer once.

Amal
