I keep getting the following error message,

Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional cannot be launched at this time. You must launch atleast one other suite component (such as Adobe Photoshop) before launching Acrobat 8 Professional

Any ideas?

The problem seems to originate from the 8.1 update. I only have a two users on Acrobat 8 installed with the Creative Suite 3 Design Premium package. One user installed the 8.1 update two days ago and began to get the same error message as most reported here about having Photoshop running the first time he tried to open a PDF. The other has not installed the update and has not had the error or quitting problem. I tried MarkATS' solution, but when I entered our TLP (volume license) serial number for the Creative Suite 3 DP it was rejected by Acrobat. I had to enter a TLP serial specifically for Acrobat 8 which I fortunately had available. I am running the Acrobat 8.1 update, but originally installed from volume licensing media for Acrobat 8 with the aforementioned serial number. The update has worked fine with no problems for me. Thus the problem only seems to be with the suite product. It appears the update may have hindered the application's ability to recognize the Suite registration data.

Yep... My problem exactly. I have been using CS3 for almost 2 years and never had a problem I couldnt fix. Now  this auto update for Adobe Acrobat 8 professional wont let me review PDF's. i tried having Photoshop open and that didnt help a bit.

I hate to have to uninstall adobe. I hope they come up with another update to over write this problem.

I live on my computer like many of you do.  Come on Adobe... get with it!

Hi there,

I'm having the exact same problem and have tried moving the folders to my desk top (well 2 of them, the 3rd I didn't have) and still no joy.

Any other ideas?

You're in the wrong location. Make sure you aren't in your homedirectory.

You were right, I took them from my home directory. Now I've taken them from the hard drive directory, I've been able to install Acrobat successfully. Going to delete the 3 folders now.

Only thing is - Distiller isn't set correctly - I can't create a PDF from the print option! Perhaps I should post this in the relevant section.

Thanks MarkATS - you've been a great help.

I have the same problem* and have read the replies but could not see the solution yet. The problem persists for me with or w/out the update, whether I launch Photoshop or not. If I am missing some information, I would really apppreciate some assistance.

Thanks

My serial number got rejected, too, for the cs3 design premium. So how does one have a serial number for acrobat 8 'handy"?

Too? I don't think anyone in this thread had a serial number problem, did they?

Hi,

I removed the 3 folders from my library and acrobat 8 worked fine, I then deleted the folders but now I can't open Photoshop CS3?

'A required application library failed to load and the product cannot continue. Please reinstall the application.'

The thing is I had cs3 preinstalled when I bought the mac?

Is there away round this problem?

Thanks

From Apple? If so, the installers should have came with the computer too.

If you bought the computer from an individual, then well, you're probably not licensed for the software anyway and you'll have to buy yourself a copy.

And that's probably the answer.

I've bought both the applications and machine from Apple at the same time. They don't install CS3.

Not sure that I've seen much activity from Aandi in this thread with the exception of the first post which was a valid question.

You got something against rocks?

In richardfincham defense, Apple had a promotion where you could purchase a mac and suite with an educational discount. the suite came installed.

expert user - James Harris mentioned how the serial number was rejected, roberta had the same issue... and so do I. James said that its from an update which I performed and am now having issues. Has a solution been found? Anyone? I really need to work in acrobat!

Make sure no adobe apps are running. navigate to "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe" and move the Acrobat, Adobe PCD and Adobe PDF folders to the desktop, then launch Acrobat. You'll have to enter your serial number again, but you should launch sucessfully.

It works!
