Hi,
We have a problem with Adobe Reader 9.3 and Adobe acrobat Reader DC. We couldn’t create or open any pdf file, if the file location path or file name contains more than 225 characters . We have received access denied error. It seems like a known issue. Could you please let us know, if you have any solution for this issue.

Hello Parthasarathip,
Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. As per the description above, you are not able to create/open PDF file if the file location path or file name contains more than 225 characters, Is that correct?
The maximum filename length (and pathname length, ie filename plus the name of the path where it is saved) is a property of the operating system. It doesn't matter which file it is and the characters are determined by the OS and not Reader or any other application.
Note: As correctly mentioned by Bernd Alhit that Adobe Reader cannot create PDF files and Adobe Reader 9.3 is an end of life and support product. For detailed information, please refer to End of support | Reader 9 and Acrobat 9 (and earlier)
Is Acrobat or the freeware Adobe Reader installed? And what is the dot version of Acrobat or freeware Adobe Reader installed? To identify, please refer to Adobe article Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC
Is it a Mac or Windows machine and what is the version of the Operating system installed?
Please share a screenshot of the error you get, to share the screenshot, please refer to Adobe article https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7043#jive_content_id_How_do_I_attach_a_screenshot
You can also refer and try the suggestions from the following Adobe discussions Is there a file length name limit in Adobe Acrobat Pro? (Create PDF)
Let us know how it goes and share your findings.
Regards,
Anand Sri.

There must be a folder+file length limitation within Adobe Acrobat DC, because we have had similar issues to the problem described above. Our solution was to shorten sub folder and file names to stay below a 128 character limit. Clearly this only happens with PDF's in adobe. It is not a Windows 10 issue because Windows 10 supports up to 32,767 characters. Adobe needs to fix this issue by increasing the folder + subfolder + subfolder ... + file length allowed to greater than 1000 characters to solve this problem. The fact that people are doing work arounds is silly. Adobe needs to step up to the plate and admit there is a problem and fix it.

I agree!! This issue has been consistently getting worse and worse for us. There were ZERO issues up until Adobe went to a cloud based program (paid monthly) and instead of getting cutting edge software, we are getting garbage. We rely HEAVILY on pdf technology to not only work with in the "field" to modify pdf source documents, but also processing them and creating final pdf "reports" to distribute to our customers. We are dead in the water RIGHT NOW due to Adobe and whatever their latest software version that is being spoon fed to us.
Also, why are pdf documents all of a sudden about ten times the size that they used to be? We used to be able to send as many pdf "reports" as we wanted via email and now we can only send about three before the attachments exceed our maximum email sending capacity.
Having zero choice but to pay monthly for a program that causes nothing but frustrations and is costing us serious money and time and customer issues is highly frustrating to say the least!
Is there anything that can be done? I don't know where to begin to solve this issue. Does anyone know of a simple pdf document program that will allow us to edit the "source" pdf and create final pdf reports from that source? Please let me know because in my un-techie opinion Adobe is failing in a big way.

Jay

Hi Jay; Nope no real solutions. Been on 3 support calls with Adobe and no help, about 45 mins each. Super busy, so don't have time to educate adobe on how to develop functional software products. At the momment, the work around was to move all needed sub-folders directly under the C: so to keep file names short. Its making things very messy and complicated on my end, since it is destroying my companies file logic and document mangement system we have been using for 20+ years. Not many words to explain here that don't contain four letters.
