Adobe PDF / Scroll bars still missing

Explorer ,
Sep 19, 2023 Sep 19, 2023

I've looked at all the posts and their answers. It's very frustrating. I've done all the suggestions. Still no scrollbar. If I adjust the page size manually -- pull it in or out -- the bars appear for a few seconds then disappear. I can't grab them.

I cannot scroll up/down or side to side. Mac Ventura. Acrobat Pro version 2023.006.20320

Any other ideas or will there be an update to fix?

Finaly fixed in the latest February update!

There is a new Preference under Page Display: Always show Scroll bars!

And also set the preference to Enable scrolling under Page Display, Page Layout, and the we are finally(!) good to go!

Thanks for the work you did with this.

The thing is, when I view a document like your 2-page doc, I don't have the scroll bar. But I guess this is because you have continuous scrolling enabled, and not single page view.

Hello, My Mac updated to adobe acrobat pro Version 2023.008.20555. So when I try to use crop tool, the cropping margins can't show on my artwork, they only show only on the preview part, so it make difficult for me to work proper.

kindly assist

Hi there,

We are sorry to hear that.

Please go to Preferences (Ctrl,Cmd+K) > Units and Guides, Select 'Show ruler when opening documents' > Click OK and reboot the application. Also turn on the grid by (Ctrl,Cmd+U) and see if that works.

Let us know how it goes.

~Amal

I cannot find the Preferences/Page display/Show scroll bars option. I assume I must have the latest version (2023.008.20470) as no update is available. Under the View/Page Display I turned Enable Scrolling off – and the scroll bar appeared. Something needs fixing.

Attaching screenshot:

Acrobat > Preferences > Page Display > Page content and information > Always show scroll bars

Acrobat.jpg

Once the pdf file is opened (and annoyingly everytime you open a file):

View > Page Display > Enable Scrolling

This combo of commands is working consistently (for me anyway)

p.s. the latest Adobe version is 2023.008.20555

Your version: 2023.008.20470 is not the latest version

That is the version I have and scroll bars are working with the settings shown in the screens shots in Frans's post. Do you also have "Always" checked for Show scroll bars in System Settings/Appearance?

Yes, I have checked all the right buttons for months now. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I had to edit the plist to get so see the scroll bars at all (probably due to macOS) and I need them in single page view, where they are still missing.

"I had to edit the plist to get so see the scroll bars at all" Did you try replacing original plist file?

Checking or unckecking "Enable scrolling" from the the View>Page Display menu switches between continuous and one page at a time, single page view. Scroll bars are visible for both proportional to page or document length.

How do I do that?

I don't need the continous scolling, but one page at a time, and even with the edited plist, I see the scroll bars only with continous scolling.

Hi. To do 1 page at a time, "Zoom to page level" and turn off 'Enable scrolling" then as you use your scroll on your mouse it scrolls page by page. You can pin the 2 icons at the bottom right, with Enable scrolling "off"

Helps a bit if you set Preferences/Documents to "Restore last view settings..."

So what has this to do with the still missing scroll bars?

Thanks, J.M.S. At least now I know I just have to keep on using the old 2022.001.20112 version with all the muscle-memory elements intact, INCLUDING all the scroll bars, even if I have to click "Cancel" every time I close a PDF and it asks me to Upgrade...!

Ah, as a book publisher in New Zealand, I have had only Macs since 1986, and while my wife has a PC laptop, if I venture near it, I become a stranger in a strange land... And without scroll bars, my editors are lost, my proofreaders are lost, and as the main typesetter, later taking in those corrections, I too am lost.
