Whenever I open Adobe Reader, a pop-up asks me to pay for a subscription. When I close it the whole app closes. I only want to use the free version.
I used to have a subscription to the Creative Cloud, but not anymore and I have used the Cleaner Tool to delete all Adobe Programs and later reinstalled the reader. I have also updated my laptop already.

Try uninstalling the reader, using AcroCleaner AcroCleaner — Acrobat Desktop Tools and Utilities to clean up the remaining mess, and reinstall the reader.
