Adobe X Pro

New Here ,
Jan 04, 2021 Jan 04, 2021

This is probably a long shot, but I had Adobe X Pro on my computer, it was purchased in 2011.  I cannot find the original disks.  I did a free trial of something I thought would help me edit something with more options.  Didn't like it.  It apprarently installed over my older version, and so now it is lost.  Anyway I can download that older version somewhare?

Yes, Adobe maintains download pages for legacy Acrobat versions as far back as Acrobat 9.   HOWEVER, those download pages are not easy to find.  ALSO, when you reach the download page for an old Acrobat version, you don't get the FINAL version of the old Acrobat version.  What you find is the FULL first version of the old Acro version followed by many updates that take the first version to the final version.  In other words, you will need to download the full first version and all updates, installing them one by one in chronological order of release date (of each update).   If you fail to do the aforementioned, you will likely end up with a buggy old version of Acrobat.

Here is the link for the secret download page for old Acrobat versions, including ver X:  https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows

PS:  Obviously, if you don't have a copy of your original Acro X perpetual license, the Acro X download will only work in trial mode.

I don't see any installer on that page for the full original version of Acrobat 10.0.0, only updates and later versions...

Ugh, you are right.  I have not visited that Adobe download page for a few years.  The full 'first' versions for the old Acrobat versions are gone.  Sorry for the bum steer.  I imagine you will need to find somebody who has an original disc to burn an ISO for you to install Acro X Pro.

No. Adobe stopped making older installers available, unless they were originally a digital download purchase.

If that's not the case, and if you haven't saved a copy of your installer then you're out of luck.

I have my disc for retail UPGRADE version of Acrobat Pro X.  I could possibly burn the disc to an ISO and place the ISO in my OneDrive cloud storage with a share link given to you for download.  You would have to burn the ISO to a DVD disc (which I use Nero for that purpose).  I am not sure if my disc version will accept a full version serial number.  I remember I had to input both my Acrobat Pro 9 full license and my Acro Pro X upgrade license.

It won't work, and I'm not sure doing that would be legal, so I would advise you not to try, or suggest it to others.

Why wouldn't it be legal?   It is only sharing the software, not providing a license number.  Old Adobe software on discs allowed installation in 'trial' mode (for 30 days) without the need for a license.

The only real question is whether or not my Acro Pro X software would accept a different license number than the one issued with my disc.  I bet it might.  Old software didn't have security precautions as strict as it is today.

Real answer: you must update Acrobat to its latest version before licencing.

Acrobat 9 latest version is 9.5.5

Acrobat X latest version is 10.1.16

Acrobat XI latest version is 11.0.23

"Real answer: you must update Acrobat to its latest version before licencing."

In 2013, I reinstalled Acrobat 0 Pro Extended on a W7 PC using my retail disc bought a few months after the initial release in 2008,  I inputted the license number immediately after installation ... and then installed the ten or so updates.

I am certain you don't have to update any Acrobat version BEFORE inputting the license.

I'm talking to you from the year 2021.

Since Adobe's registration servers have undergone several changes and modifications only the latest versions can connect to them. Early versions do not know their new addresses.

So I just received an email directly from Adobe support.  Their servers no longer support Acrobat X Pro and they do not have any way to download it.  They did offer me Acrobat 2017 Pro, but want to charge me $400 for the updated version.  I will continue looking for a less expensive way to go.  Thanks for all of your comments!

No one from Adobe is going to e-mail you and offer you a license to Acrobat 2017. Check the return address for the e-mail. I'd almost be willing to bet that it is not from the adobe.com domain (i.e., of the format xxxxxxxxxxx@adobe.com. Someone's trying to scam you.

Furthermore, that alleged information is absolutely NOT true! The activation servers for Acrobat 10 are indeed still up and running. Further questions, call Adobe Customer Support at https://helpx.adobe.com/contact/phone.html.

Mr. Isaacs,   My copy of Acrobat DC Pro has become a massive bug bomb AGAIN.

1.  Trying to insert a jpeg or png image instantly freezes DC into NOT RESPONDING.

2.  Text boxes will NOT resize or move.  I am stuck with the default size.

3.  Text highlight and underline are NOT working.

4.  Rich Media is dead.  I can embed a MP4 video (5,1 mb size) and audio will play but NOT the video.

Oh, yes, Acro Pro DC worked fine for a day after uninstalling Reader DC via AcroCleaner and then doing a repair installation of Acro Pro DC.   But when I fired up my PC today to do some critical JOB work in Acrobat, all the issues cited above bit me.

After using MOST Acrobat versions for the past 20 years, I now HATE Acrobat with a passion.

I think my ONLY solution is to revert back to Acro Pro XI or try a PDF Creator/ Editor from Nuance or Wondershare.

Sir, you claim to be a Principal Scientist, Adobe ... well, do you think there is a solution to my DC issues?

With best regards from a BETRAYED Old Adobe customer,

Preston

There are at least two things wrong with that email: Acrobat 2017 is also outdated and not sold by Adobe any longer, and Acrobat X can still be activated.

I hope you did not pay them anything or give them any private information, as the people who contacted you are scammers!

JR - So, in 2021, you are saying that if I decided to build a 'retro' W7 PC and wanted to use my retail copy of Acrobat 9 Pro (installed from the original disc), I could not ACTIVATE the 'perpetual' license?  I am sure I could input the license during installation ... but after installation, activation would be the issue since the 2021 Adobe servers will no longer do that???      I don't know about that. I think Acrobat 9 of 2008 predates mandatory activation and is still a pure standalone local PC software.

Unless you exceeded the maximum activation count of Acrobat 9 or used Acrobat 9 to update to Acrobat 10, it should still work. And no, Acrobat 9 did not predate mandatory activation.

Mr. Isaacs, You are correct about the maximum activation count.  I used the subscription Adobe software for so long that I had forgotten that detail.  And my faulty memory thought that mandatory activation began with X.  I stand corrected.

BY THE WAY, you will love my new ALTERNATIVE Solution for the poster's issue.

Best regards, Preston
