Hi Luis,
What triggers this error message? What were you doing when you got this error message?
Have you tried repairing Acrobat Installation?
Was Acrobat working fine on your machine before this error? Because, Acrobat XI isn't compatible with Windows XP, I would recommend you to upgrade your OS to windows 7 or higher.

Rahul

Hi,
Could you please share the AdobeARM.log file from %temp% ( C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Temp ) location.
Also please create the following registry key to enable verbose logging for updater:
On 64bit machine:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM]
"iLogLevel"=dword:00000001
On 32bit machine:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM]
"iLogLevel"=dword:00000001
Once you have created the above keys please launch Acrobat/Reader again and wait for the error dialog to occur. Once the error dialog occurs click OK on it and then collect and share the AdobeARM.log from %temp%.
Thanks
Rohit

I'm running XP Pro. I got a message today about an update to either Acrobat or Acrobat Reader (don't remember which). After downloading and installing it I now get the same message as luisc:
AdobeARM.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point CreateProcessWithTokenW could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll.
This happens every time I boot the computer as well as every time I read a pdf or launch Acrobat. It takes a while to appear and gives me the impression that it's associated with the program contacting Adobe behind the scene for updates or whatever. I'm running Acrobat Reader 11.0.08 and Acrobat XI Pro 11.0.0. Both programs seem to run OK. There's just this annoying message.
I can try removing and reinstalling Reader if you think it would help. Would prefer to not do that with Acrobat.
P.S. I tried repairing Reader. It didn't make any difference.
P.P.S. Some web searching indicates that others have experienced problems with AdobeARM. It appears to be the update manager and there's some debate about disabling it as you'll then have to rely on manual checking for updates. I'd rather that it worked.

Disabling updates would be a positive thing to do if you have XP, since Adobe no longer makes updates that are compatible with XP. Hence the problem.
Curiously though this happened to me on an old test machine where I thought I had already disabled all updates.

I uninstall acrobat everything (I delete the folders too and run ccleaner) and I install Acrobat X that it is fully compatible with XP, but I continue receiving the same messague. like Bill say it open think some seconds after it show the message.

Hi Luis C,
Try the following Steps :
1. Go to Start Menu, then Run (or press WindowsKey + R)
2. Type cmd and press Enter
3. In the command-prompt window type:
sc delete AdobeARMService
and press Enter. Then restart your machine.
Let me know if this resolves your issue.

Rahul,
Since my last post I tried unchecking AdobeARM from the msconfig System Configuration Utility's Startup tab list. This resulted in my not getting the error message on startup but I still get it every time I read a pdf or launch Acrobat. Minor improvement.
I just tried the sc delete AdobeARMService command. It results in the following:
[SC] OpenService FAILED 1060:
The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
Note that I'm doing this with AdobeARM unchecked in the Startup list. Don't know but that may not what you wanted. Does the current directory or path have to be anything special?
I forgot to mention before that I'm also running XP on a laptop (no Acrobat there) and don't see the AdobeARM.exe error message on it when I read a pdf. But, unlike my desktop that runs XP Pro, I haven't done any updates to Reader recently. I'll have to check but I think that the laptop runs Reader 11.0.08 like the desktop.

Rohit,
Presently HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe ARM\1.0\ARM contains:
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
iCheck REG_DWORD 0x00000004 (4)
iCheckReader REG_DWORD 0x00000003 (3)
Am I right that you want me to add a fourth line that would read:
iLogLevel REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
There is no folder anywhere on C: named Users or AppData or Local. The closest I can find is:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data
and
C:\Documents and Settings\<my name>\Application Data
There are several folders named LocalService. Are any of these what you are referring to? Or are you saying that C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Local\Temp will be created from scratch when AdobeARM.log is created?
I see that the same issue is coming up on the Reader discussions:
If you search for AdobeARM, you'll find several recent related threads/posts.
The underlying issue here seems to be some sort of XP compatibility issue that appeared after a recent update. The simple reality is that XP was very popular and lots of users still run it. I've forgotten the details so this may be somewhat scrambled but something like that happened with Java. Except there the update detects that you're running XP and tells you that an update is not available for it.

Does creating the following registry key make the problem go away?
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown]
"bUpdater"=dword:00000000
In addition, you can run msconfig (via the Win+R), go to the Startup tab, and deselct "Adobe Reader and Acrobat Manager" item (that corresponds to the AdobeARM.exe process), press Apply, and restart your machine.
This fixed it in Windows XP for me.

It does not go away with this reg fix.
Also, Ashumittal please keep in mind, this is happening with users who only use Adobe Reader as well. Im assuming both Reader and Acrobat use the same updater.
But in one case, I have a user using Reader 10 and this issue is happening. So it looks like its the updater.
Since Adobe is aware of the issue, can you provide any known background on it ASAP?
I ask because perhaps we can find bandaids to stop it from happening via registry/msconfig in the meantime.
thanks

Deterset2... I must update.
It did work for the User with Adobe Reader. I havent had luck with Acrobat.
It is worth mentioning that I did a reg search for AdobeARM prior to adding this regkey and I deleted anything mention AdobeARM updater (2 or 3 entries).
I am not sure if this contributed to the success or not but for now..... It is working for the user with just Reader.

Yep, me too. It comes up with each start. I updated everything Adobe and ran Malwarebytes, no change. According to the Internet the problem is widespread and it probably needs to be fixed. Oh and a lot of the Internet comments regarding this error are in relation to some game called Halo 2 - I'm not a gamer and there should be no such program on my computer.

Is there any ETA? I have about 10 users as of today with this issue, and if the resolution is not reached i may have to move them off Acrobat. It would be unpleasant for everyone involved to say the least...
