When Rich Text Formatting is turned off, multi-line text fields automatically adjust font size to accommodate more text. This is great!
Only problem is, as soon as you turn on Rich Text Formatting, this functionality disappears. This is a major bummer! Auto-sizing text is a great feature, and so is being able to make text bold or italic (or even bold italic!) Would love to be able to have both. Just wondering if anyone out there has found a workaround to make this possible, whether through scripting or if LiveCycle has this capability...
It is indeed an option. When such a field has the focus and the Properties Bar (Ctrl+E) is displayed, the user is allowed to select some text and choose a font, font size, etc.
When I said that it doesn't make sense, I was thinking about how it would possibly be implemented when several different fonts sizes (not to mention different fonts) are set by the user.
Unfortunately, this is not auto-sizing rich text in a multi-line field. You may have selected "Auto-Size" for the text size, but if you continue typing to the end of the text field, the text will be cut off and won't shrink to fit more. In this case, all "Auto-Size" is doing is choosing one text size for you, and only one. It will never change, there's nothing auto about it. If you turn off Rich Text Formatting, however, you will see the difference when you try to over-fill the text field. The font size will change dynamically.
When a field allows rich text formatting, the font size for each individual character could potentially be set to something different than any other character in the field. Since there is this flexibility with a rich text field, the concept of auto-size doesn't make a lot of sense.
Also, sorry for replying twice, but I don't think rich text field allows you to change the font size as the end user of the form. You can make it subscript or superscript, sure, but I see no option to change font size.
