Bookmark with Text Selected isn't working

I used to be able to do the following:

Create a PDF bookmark with a selection.

You can easily create a bookmark by selecting the area of the PDF page you want to bookmark.

Here’s how to add a bookmark to a PDF with a selection using Adobe Acrobat:

  1. Launch Acrobat.
  2. Click the Bookmarks button to open the Bookmarks panel.
  3. Open the page where you want the bookmark to link to, and adjust the view settings.
  4. Use the Select tool to designate the area of the page you want to bookmark:
    • To bookmark a single image, click the image or drag a rectangle around the image.
    • To bookmark a portion of an image, drag a rectangle around the section.
    • To bookmark the text, drag over the text to select it. The selected text becomes the label of the new bookmark. You can edit the label.
  5. Select the bookmark under which you want to place the new bookmark. If you don’t select a bookmark, the new bookmark is automatically added at the end of the list.
  6. Choose Tools > Edit PDF > More > Add Bookmark.
  7. In the Bookmarks panel, type or edit the name of the new bookmark.

Adding a bookmark with a selection is a breeze; however, you can add a bookmark to a PDF without one.

The text above which I bolded and underlined is what is no longer working for me in Adobe. I'll select text, click on Add Bookmark, and nothing happens. In the past, it worked exactly as described above. I noticed this not working anymore a few weeks ago.

I spoke with a colleague and they are seeing this issue as well.

Are others seeing this? How can I fix this?

This just recently started working correctly again, so I guess the bug has been fixed.

@lelandh9876

You posted to the Adobe Photoshop forum — I've moved your post to the Acrobat forum for you.

Which tool are you using to select text?

Does Ctrl+B work to create a bookmark from your selected text?

When your post was in the Photoshop forum, you tagged it as a Bug, but the Acrobat team does not use the Adobe forums for Bugs and Ideas and the tag was lost. Instead the Acrobat team has you post Bugs to a separate forum:https://acrobat.uservoice.com/

I just use my mouse to select the text, selecting the text that I want to be the label of the bookmark.

To create the bookmark I was clicking on the Add Bookmark symbol in the bookmark area, though just now I tried Ctrl+B and still nothing happens. This is only when I have text selected though. If I don't have text selected, meaning if I just click on a page, or select an image by using the mouse to create a rectangular selected region, it does create an untitled Bookmark that I now have to manually type in the name to the text I want it to be.

I am having the same problem since the last update. It seems it is requiring a subscription.

Mine still isn't working. I signed up for the free trial and then it would allow me to bookmark, but once I cancelled the free trial there was no longer an option to add a new bookmark.

It seems you have to pay to add bookmarks now.

I have a subscription, so I can't speak to whether it only works on a paid account or not.

I just know that on my paid account, first it worked for a long time, recently stopped working, and then more recently started working again.

Adding Bookmarks has always been a feature of Adobe Acrobat. It has never been part of the free Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Jane,

That is not true, because I was able to add bookmarks just a month ago with the free Adobe.
