Can I change default encryption level ?

Community Beginner ,
Aug 19, 2018 Aug 19, 2018

Dear All

Can I change the default encryption level that appears in the "Password Security - Settings" window ?

I want to use 256-bit AES, and the default is 128-bit, so each time I encrypt a file, I have to change this. I cannot see where to change the default, but I guess it may be possible.

Can anyone help please ?

Many thanks

Bill

Hi Bill,

Try following troubleshooting steps:

- Choose Tools > Protect > Encrypt > Manage Security Policies

- Select the policy to change

- Click the Edit button

- Uncheck the “Save passwords…” checkbox (unless you want to enter and save the password in the policy)

- Click Next

- Choose the desired value in Compatibility drop down list.

- Click OK

- Click Finish.

Now every time when Password/Certificate protection is selected, the corresponding security policy will be applied.

Let us know if you need any help.

Hi Bill,

As per the issue description mentioned above, you want to change the encryption level in Acrobat, is that correct?

To change the encryption level, select an Acrobat version from the Compatibility drop-down menu when securing pdfs in Acrobat. Refer to the following help document for more info:

Hi Shivam

Sorry if I was not clear. I know how to change the setting, but I want to change the default that appears when I open the "Password Security - Settings" window.

Is there a way to do that ?

Thanks

Bill

Hi Shivam

Perfect. That has fixed it. Much appreciated: things that help with repeated tasks make a disproportionate impact compared to the time that is actually saved I think.

Is it something that you could make part of the help that is available, because I guess that others, like me, may not have worked this out themselves and be glad of it ?

Many thanks

Bill
