Can't add border or fill to text field

I recently upgraded to Mac OS High Sierra and now it seems as if the border/fill in the Appearance properties isn't sticking. By default, it's set to NO BORDER, NO FILL. I'm able to select a color using the color wheel, but it doesn't get applied.

Anyone have a fix for this? This renders the program virtually useless for me.

Adobe is aware of this issue, and it's listed in the following Acrobat and Mac OS 10.13 High Sierra compatibility issues list:
