Ever since I updated to Sonoma I cannot print PDF files in Adobe Acrobat. No connection with the printer can be established. Acrobat Distiller opens and freezes. Need to force quit Acrobat and Distiller. I have the most recent printer driver installed. I encounter no problems printing from InDesign or Illustrator. Anyone else has this problem and/or the solution?
Hi jeffreyd93286918,
The latest Adobe Acrobat version (23.06.20360) released addresses this issue. Please update the application to the newest version using the following steps:
- In Acrobat, go to Menu > Help
- Select "Check for Updates."
For more information about the new release, refer to the following link: Adobe Acrobat Release Notes.
Let us know how it goes.
Thanks,
Meenakshi

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/
p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.

I have a similar problem, and I have updated to the latest version of acrobat 2023.008.20470. It didn't solve my problem. Whenever I try to print from Acrobat (creatve cloud) I get a spinning ball, then an error saying Distiller has shut down unexpectedly. For the past few months, I've had to print from preview.

I have the same problem, can't print or if it prints, I get only half of the letters. I get the message distiller is crashing, didn't even know I had distiller... Probably integrated in Acrobat Pro.
I have to print from my Iphone now, then it works. So, its not the printer. I have the latest version of everything, no updates for Acrobat. How do I solve this? It only started since I upgraded to Sonoma, so its got the have something to do with that.

I cannot get pdf documents to print either since updating to Sonoma 14. I get an error message that "no pages have been selected". My software is up to date for Adobe Reader and Adobe Pro. I can only print pdf files if I open them in Preview. They do not print when opened with Adobe Reader or Adobe Pro.

Now, in late December 2023, it is still impossible to print a PDF from Acrobat running on Sonoma 14.2.1.
Fortunately, these PDFs can be printed with "Preview" but it is totally unacceptable that the Acrobat team has failed to fix this issue although the problem has existed for three months.

The optional January Update (which was posted this weekend) seems to have fixed my inability to print PDFs from Acrobat on Sonoma 14.2.1.
Thank you for that Upgrade.

I find that Build: 23.8.20470.0 is printing with Mac OS Sonoma 14.3.1.
Perhaps trashing all Prefs and then re-installing Acrobat Pro might help?

I had the same problem this week using Acrobat Pro on MacOS Sonoma - every time I opened a pdf and tried to print it Distiller would crash and then refuse to open. I tried everything from uninstalling Acrobat; using AcroCleaner Mac.dmg as recommended on the site, and then reinstalling it - nothing worked. I then remembered I had imported some pdf print preferences to InDesign from a previous version of Acrobat as the settings were what I commonly used when making high-res print quality pdfs. Today I went in and deleted those settings and now the problem seems to be fixed. So, if you have imported some print settings from a previous version it may be the problem. Good luck!

Can you explain the steps you took? I'm desperate and cannot get this to print without freezing!

Hi, I can print only when I print everything as image. When I turn that off, acrobat still doesn't work (says it can't find or open distiller and then freezes)

I wonder why someone would print a PDF from within Acrobat instead of saving it...

What a strange comment, in other words: you don't understand why people want to print something anyway?

What a strange comment if I only wonder. However, why would anybody want to print something to a PDF in Acrobat? That's simply paradox.

O, I thought you commented on the fact that I couldn't print a PDF. I missed that someone wanted to print a PDF to a PDF format. That is indeed a bit weird.
My problems printing problems are now solved by the way, I guess the new updates fixed this.

The title says "Can't print PDF files from Acrobat". Acrobat is an app that creates PDFs and saves them. Perhaps, the topic starter meant "Can't print PDF files using the Adobe PDF printer"?

I couldn't print pdfs. Period. But all my pdfs open in acrobat that's why I headlined I couldn't print from (not to!) acrobat. I should have said I can't print pdfs. But the problem is solved so I can print pdfs now.
