I am trying to combine a multi page word document (.docx) and a single page pfd file however the task fails to complete and i am getting a windown saying " There was an error encountered while combining files...". This is very frustrating as i am paying for an Adobe membership and the basic functions are NOT working. Any assitance would be much apprecaited.

Are you able to convert the file on its own? What versions of Acrobat and Office do you have?

And what's your Office version? Don't use the Combine Files command. Just go to File - Create - PDF from File and then select the DOCX file. Also, try it with another file (just a blank one you create), if that one doesn't work.

Your version and build of Microsoft Word belong to the family of Office365 and it was released recently in 27 October, 2022.
If this method was working before, you may need to provide more information as this could be a compatibility issue.
For instance, an upgrade took place in your operating system from Windows 10 to Windows 11, or you upgraded MS Word to this newer version.
The error messages that the Adobe Acrobat Combine tool is reporting are normal due to many different reasons, and may not be related at all with Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Since both, the method that you're wrestling with and try67's suggestion have failed, you need to dig deeper.
In your last set of screenshots, the popup alert is suggesting to convert the file to PDF first before combining it with other documents.
Did you try that?
And since you've been informed in the prior attempt that there is a problem with the file, you have to work around the issue within the Microsoft Word document first.
One way for me, would be to save a copy of that document using the older word document file format as .doc (compatible with Microsoft Word 97 through 2004 versions) instead of .docx.
Since .docx is an XML-based file format that was introduced since 2007, and it could be possible that Adobe Acrobat is having a hard time interpreting the XML portions of that MS Word file, I've been able to fix in the past saving a copy with .doc extension and then opening it again with Office365.
You'll be prompted to keep current format or update to .docx file format; in doing this the detected file corruption may be addressed.
One other approach is to verify where is this .docx file saved in in that version of Microsoft Windows that you're using.
For example:
Is the file residing in a temporary cache folder?
Is the file residing in a folder that restricts full Read/Write access and requires Administrative privileges?
Does the .docx file contains any scripting with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) macros by which some restrictions are set too high?
Is the .docx digitally signed with a certificate-based digital signature?
To investigate, just open that document in MS Word and employ the Accessibility Checker.
If the Accessibility checker finds issues, select the recommended remedial actions as describe in this Microsoft Support guidance:
And try again.
If that doesn't work, share a copy of the file with no sensitive data on it and we can try and reproduce the issue on our end.
