Cannot turn off AI Assistant. The instructions I found say to do it in Preferences > Generative AI. However, I don't have this option in Preferences. Yes, I gave the latest version of Acrobat Reader.
So, the question remains: how can I turn off AI Assistant?

Hi @timofej,
Hope you are doing well. Sorry for your experience with Acrobat!
Are you using an IT provided or Enterprise account? I wasn't able to trace the subscription on the email address registered on the community.
One thing that I would like to know if whether you are logged in to the application. If not, please sign in and check if you are able to see the preferences.
Also, if you are on an Enterprise license, I would suggest checking on with your IT team whether they have disabled the option from the backend.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for the fast reply, Souvik!
I've installed the software myself after downloading it from you website. So, this is neither IT provided nor Enterprise version. I've signed in to the application but the Preferences options have not changed.

Thanks @timofej for the response.
Would you mind clicking on the AI Assistant button? Once clicked, please agree to the terms, and then you should be able to see the preferences show up.
Unless that is done, you will not be able to use the feature, and also make any changes to the preferences.
Let me know if that works.

I don't get a prompt to agree to the terms. Probably, I have already done at some occation. What I see is following:
Still no option to turn off Generative AI.

Would you mind trying out the steps below:
Please run the Acrobat cleaner tool https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/Labs/cleaner.html, reboot the computer once, and install the application using the direct link https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-dc-downloads.html and see if that works for you.

Ok, I've cleaned the PC from Reader and installed a new one. However, not through your link, since it lead to Acrobat Pro and Standard. Instead I downloaded it from this page: https://get.adobe.com/reader/
The AI button is gone, even if I still don't have Generative AI in the options. But I can live without it by now. Unless AI button popups one of a sudden again.
However, I've got another problem. Each time I open a new document I get "All tools" panel to the left:
Even if I close the panel it opens again as soon as I open a new document. I don't need these tools and the panel takes up a precious space. Is there a way to get rid off the panel for good?

Ok, I've restarted the computer and the AI Assistance button is back. 😕 So is the "All tools" panel. Still, no option to turn Generative AI off in Preferences.

@timofej, Sorry for the trouble.
I have shared this with the dev team for further solutions.
You might want to try disabling the feature from the registry of your device till I get a response from the team.
More steps here: Lockable Settings (adobe.com)
Also, for the tools panel, you can save the last view settings of your document by going to Preferences-> Documents-> check the option "Restore last view settings when reopening documents."
[added screenshot for reference]
Once done, close the tool pane when viewing the document and close Acrobat.
The next time you launch a PDF in Acrobat, the tools panel should be closed.
Let me know if this helps.

Thank you for your help, Souvik!
The AI button is gone after I've edited the Registry. However, All tools panel is still there each time I open a document, even if I've checked for "Restore last view..."
As well as the Comments panel to the right, that I don't want to get opened either.

For the comments pane, you can uncheck the option "Show comments pane when a PDF with comments is opened" from Preferences-> Commenting (screenshot attached).
For the all tools panel, ensure that you close the tools panel-> then close document followed by Acrobat app immediately.
Once done, try again and let me know.

I have unchecked "Show comments pane when a PDF with comments is opened", closed all panes, close the app, but still get both panes opened when reopen the file.

Thanks @timofej for trying out all the steps promptly and sharing the responses.
I have forwarded this to the concerned devs.
Allow me some time to get back to you on this.
Thanks,
