Checkbox transparency

When creating a checkbox, I always use a checkbox font and then overlay a checkbox with transparent border/fill. Halfway through creating a pdf form, an update happened and I can no longer find "transparent" as a choice. Not available in the color choice window. Does anyone know how to make a transparent checkbox?
