Choose paper source by PDF page size not working [Acrobat 8, Windows 11]

  1. Version of the app  1.7 Acrobat 8.x
  2. Platform and OS version  64-bit operating system, x64-based processor  windows 11 home, 21H2, OS  22000.832

This same issue is happening again!  Happened last year in February 2021.  Now, happening again post Windows 11 update as well as an Adobe Update this week.  7/29/2022.

Been on the line with Geek Squad for hours.  THIS did not work

Please try the same workflow, with turning off the 'Protected Mode' and then try printing the same.

Steps to turn off the 'Protected Mode' :

  1. Launch Acrobat
  2. Click on Edit (from Menu Bar) > Preferences
  3. Click on 'Security (Enhanced)'
  4. Uncheck 'Enable Protected Mode at startup (Preview)' > Click Yes (on popup)

If I select just ONE page out of a 200 page mixed size document, yes, the legal page will print from the correct tray, without any manipulation.  But printing a standard size THEN a legal size in the same session, both print on standard size.  You all have put me out of business, again.

Multi size document.  All print on standard size even with the "Choose Paper Source by PDF page size is checked".

Resolved.  Uninstalled my Brother software.  Reinstalled.  Resolved.

NOTE:  Brother took an update on 7/12/2022 which most likely was the cause of this issue.  Adobe took an update on 7/13/2022.

Moved from Using the Community: Bugs (for reports about bugs in the forum software) to Acrobat (for questions about Acrobat).

Acrobat 8 is a very old and unsupported version, not compatible with Windows 11, so problems are to be expected, especially after an OS update.

I just bought this computer in February of this year. Brand new. How could it have outdated Adobe? What version should it have?

Can you check your version? Acrobat 8 was released 16 years ago.

Product Version Build Released End of Core Support End of Extended Support
Acrobat Professional 8.x   11/3/2006 11/3/2011 N/A

The current version is Acrobat Pro, which is available by subscription or standalone (Acrobat 2020).

https://www.adobe.com/products/catalog.html#category=pdf

Look at the features here, as Acrobat 2020 (stand-alone)  does not have all of the features of Acrobat Pro (subscription) and does not get updates when new features come out.

The computer might be new, but the version of Acrobat is very old. Did it come with the computer?

You say version 1.7.  But there never was an Acrobat 1.7, not on Acrobat 8 or anything else. So indeed, please check what you have. And protected mode was never in Acrobat 8.  A screen shot might help unravel this.

@Unicorn808

Three things don't make sense, so please clarify for us so we can better assist.

"This same issue is happening again!  Happened last year in February 2021."
"I just bought this computer in February of this year. Brand new."

How is this happening "again"  and how did it happen last year when you just bought the computer this year?

"Been on the line with Geek Squad for hours.  THIS did not work.
Please try the same workflow, with turning off the 'Protected Mode' "

The Protected Mode is Windows only and Acrobat Reader only. Do you have Reader or Acrobat?

https://helpx.adobe.com/reader/using/protected-mode-windows.html

Version of the app  1.7 Acrobat 8.x

Can you go to Help > About Adobe Acrobat and give tell us exactly what you see there?

Thank you for clarifying,

Jane
