Click a field to automatically select all text within it

I've created a table with fillable fields in the right column. When you click a field, you need to then press ctrl+a to select all the text in that field. Is there a way that to make it so that clicking a field automatically selects all the text within it? I'd also like to make it so that the tab key selects the next field and highlights all the text within it.

This seems like it would be a pretty basic function, but I can't find a solution to it in the forums.

Tabbing into a field does select all the text in it, but not if it's a multi-line field.

There's no other way of forcing it, as far as I'm aware.
